Description
Until now, there have been master tapes recorded by John Wizard on old analog classics such as Pink Floyd’s “CALIFORNIA STOCKYARD JON WIZARDO MASTER CASSETTES UNPROCESSED” and Fleetwood Mac’s “SIN CITY 77 JON WIZARDO MASTER CASSETTES.” His works are gradually being released to the public. For a long time, the masters of these records were undiscovered and could only be enjoyed on original LPs or items dropped from LPs. If it were to become a master tape for those, it would be worthy of being called the Holy Grail. The previous two releases were enough to surprise enthusiasts around the world, but this time, the master tape of The Who’s masterpiece “WHO ‘S ON FIRST” has been unearthed. This was also recorded by John, and was released by Andrea Waters, also known as VICKI VINYL, under the IDLE MIND brand. It goes without saying that “WHO’S ON FIRST” was a masterpiece that quickly conveyed the ferociousness of The Who’s 1976 American tour, but at the same time, it was a masterpiece released by John and Andrea together. As usual, the master tape remained undiscovered for a long time. Taking note of this situation, a CD was released that was a reprint of the best-selling LP “WHO’S ON FIRST.” The CD reprinted from this LP has been sold out for a long time, and even enthusiasts have been asking for a reissue. However, this month, suddenly the master tape recorded by John was discovered. I can’t believe the master of that masterpiece has now appeared. Just like the two released titles mentioned above, I was surprised that John revealed the master that he had kept secret without even passing it on to traders. Another thing that surprised me was the upper feel of the sound quality. This recording is monaural, but this master eloquently tells us that the sound quality had deteriorated by a notch after going through the poor quality vinyl at the time. Just like the two titles by John’s master mentioned above, this time too I am overwhelmed by the freshness and clearness unique to the master tape. However, I am surprised that the state of preservation is so good that I can’t believe that the tape has been lying dormant for over 40 years. When John gave an interview for the first time last year and looked back on his activities, he said that in every sense of the word, he continued to release releases with a focus on “quantity over quality,” and that even having a factory that would press them under such conditions was a blessing at the time. was testifying. As a result, they were recorded on poor-quality vinyl, and the sound quality deteriorated to some degree. This “WHO’S ON FIRST” LP is like John and Andrea, who prefer quantity over quality, and it is compiled in an unstructured compilation that includes inflated outtakes from the album “SELL OUT” period during the Anaheim performance on March 21st. It was being done. For that reason, the impact of discovering the master this time is too great. Moreover, it is wonderful that the power unique to solid monaural recording has clearly increased compared to the “WHO’S ON FIRST” LP. In the first place, this American tour ended with a huge blunder that Keith Moon, who went on stage while drunk on the first day in Boston, fell down on the stage and ended the show after only two songs. For that reason, in the subsequent dates, Keith’s sharp drumming that literally woke up was clear. It was captured more than enough in “SEATTLE 1976” which contained the Seattle performance held four days after Anaheim, but Keith on this day was also in really good shape. It feels even more realistic with the solid monaural sound. For example, in “Sparks” in the “TOMMY” part, it is clear from the heated exchange between him and Pete that is longer than usual. The fact that it captured Keith’s outstanding drumming was the reason why “WHO’S ON FIRST” LP was called the masterpiece of the ’76 tour. And for this release, we have carefully adjusted the low pitch, which was a major drawback. In addition, the cut that occurred in “We’re Not Gonna Take It” was hidden in the LP reprint CD by copying and pasting from another part of the same song, but this excavation revealed that this was from the master. Since this has been proven, we have deliberately avoided making small changes to that part and recorded it in its original state. Besides, the sound quality itself is overwhelmingly wonderful. For example, when you listen to the glittering excitement shown in “See Me, Feel Me,” it can no longer be compared to an LP. The masterpiece master tape that Who fanatics around the world would have dreamed of has finally been unearthed!
