Description
This is the second release of The Who’s completely unreleased soundboard source. This CD contains the stereo soundboard source from the final leg of the 1982 Farewell Tour in Toronto, Canada, in the highest quality. Moreover, this source is a complete recording version of the concert. It’s a perfect sound balance that wouldn’t be surprising if it was officially released as it is, with Pete’s guitar and vocals on the right channel, John’s bass and vocals on the left channel, Roger’s vocals on the center channel, and Kenny’s drums. The snare (center), tom (right channel), floor tom (left channel), and Tim Gorman’s keyboard in the center are clearly recorded with a great mix. The way Kenny’s drums run wild in the left and right channels is truly impressive. Moreover, the performance date of this edition is not the officially released Toronto performance on the last day of the tour on December 17th, but the day before that, the first day of consecutive performances in the same place. In other words, you can listen to the sound source of the day that has never been released before with the highest quality sound. In addition, the cut part around 4:16 to 4:40 of Doctor Jimmy and the cut part of Love Reign O’er Me from 2:38 to 2:57, which were in the original master, are reproduced in monaural from the same day’s professional shot video. It has been skillfully supplemented from the soundboard audio (although there is noise on the original master at 0:39 of 5.15). In other words, the best title that is upgraded from the original master is the main version. The Who’s performance on this day was also amazing, and the quality was hard to compare with the final performance the next day when the official video work was released. It can be said that the way the band completely burns out towards the end is clearly captured. Fortunately, it is attractive that you can listen to Doctor Jimmy and Cry If You Want, which were not included in the officially released video work. It is also fun to listen and compare with the performance on the second day, and as mentioned in the bonus video, this day was supposed to be recorded with the intention of releasing the official video, so the band’s excitement can be said to be at its maximum. After I Can’t Explain, Roger greets the audience with the words, “I’m happy to be back in Toronto. This is the perfect place for a live performance.” Listening to these comments, it can be said that the recording environment was perfect. At 5:15, the day after the official release, there was an incident where Roger’s microphone cord got tangled with Pete’s guitar shield and became uncontrollable, but the song that day was very smooth and sharp. The performance is unfolding. There are some parts where Roger gets the lyrics wrong in Dangerous and John doesn’t have the best voice in The Quiet One, but the play quality is such that no one would have complained even if this day had been officially released. Its height is attractive. It is sure to become a new must-have item for fans of The Who. Live at Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto, ON. USA 16th December 1982 STEREO SBDisc 1(66:13) 1. Intro. 2.
