Look at this! The definitive Talking Heads live video! The long-awaited complete recording of all songs from the 1982 Montreux performance in the latest AI restored version. A noteworthy 2-DVD special collection capturing the band’s heyday, including a documentary, has arrived. Talking Heads Amazing Live 1982 Live from Montreux 1982 + Once in a Lifetime ~ Documentary (Wembley 1982) 2-DVD special collection The 1982 Montreux performance is recorded in the first complete, uncut version of all songs, restored with the latest AI from the original master for high-definition broadcasting. Includes the documentary “Once in a Lifetime” produced in 1982. Valuable special TV show footage in the style of a promo video, including the live performance at London Wembley. Extras include professional shot footage from 1982 to 1983, from US festivals to TV shows and even outtakes from the movie “Stop Making Sense”. Talking Heads’ live footage, which is gaining recognition across the ages, is now available as “WHATALIVE 1982-2 DVD Special Collection”! Talking Heads evolved as a pioneering band of the 1980s New Wave, and after the release of their turning point album “Remain in Light” in 1980, they strengthened their live performances by adding support musicians to their big band lineup, and reached the peak of their live performances. This “WHATALIVE 1982-2 DVD Special Collection” is a two-disc set that includes the complete version of the 1982 Montreux live performance, which is representative of their peak performances, as well as a documentary from that time and additional footage. DVD 1 contains the complete TV broadcast pro-shot footage of their performance at the 1982 Montreux Jazz Festival, the year before the film “Stop Making Sense,” which is currently celebrating its 40th anniversary and is attracting new attention. Tom Tom Club appears as the opening act in the first half. The band performs five songs, including “Wordy Rappinghood” and “Genius of Love,” which were worldwide hits in 1981, making this a rare live performance featuring the coquettish Tina Weymouth sisters. The main Talking Heads start with a band version of “Psycho Killer,” and include solo numbers such as Jerry Harrison’s “Slink” and David Byrne’s “What a Day That Was.” The set list is unique to this time, and it vividly and directly captures the heated performance of the live show itself, which is different from the high level of completion of the film “Stop Making Sense” released the following year. This live video has been confirmed to have been broadcast on TV at the time and leaked footage of the broadcast master, but the high-quality master video had a fatal problem with the sound track, with the first half of Tom Tom Club being silent, and “Psycho Killer” also having a significantly unbalanced sound source, and while the video and audio sources available so far have only been incomplete, this is the latest restored version in 2024, completely reproduced using AI restoration. Although some guitar and vocal tracks are missing, the precious live recording has now been restored as much as possible, and the encore “Take Me to the River”, which was not included in the master video, is the only video from the TV broadcast at the time, but the first half of the Tom Tom Club and Talking Heads, who appeared after a long interval due to equipment adjustments, are recorded in the first full, uncut version for the first time over a period of almost two hours. In addition, the video soundtrack has been converted from the mono sound source of the time to a stereo sound source with the latest AI remix, making it the latest edited and definitive version of the 1982 Montreux Live. DVD 2 contains the documentary “Once in a Lifetime” produced in 1982. Although it is called a documentary, it is a promotional video including live footage from the London Wembley concert, and while each song is based on a live version, it is a conceptual video work that reflects the time and is not to be missed. It is a valuable special TV show video that has not been officially filmed until now. The extra videos include professional shots of two songs from the 1982 US Festival and the 1983 “David Letterman TV Show”, as well as two outtakes that were not included in the theatrical version of the movie “Stop Making Sense”. It is a long-awaited video collection of live performances from the band’s heyday.
