Description
A perfect soundboard recording of a live performance in London at the release of Swing Out Sister’s second album, Kaleidoscope World! Formed in 1984 by keyboardist Andy Cornell, drummer Martin Jackson, and vocalist Colleen Drewry, who joined later, the band’s name was taken from the 1945 film Swing Out, Sister starring Arthur Treacher. The single “Breakout,” released at the end of 1986, reached number 4 in the UK charts and number 6 in the US charts, followed by “Surrender,” which featured a trumpet solo by John Thirkell, reaching number 7 in the UK charts, and their first album, It’s Better To Travell, which was full of great songs that cleverly blended jazz and techno pop, such as the jazzy “Twilight World” and the cheerful pop “Fool By A Smile,” which foreshadowed the Pizzicato Five. Martin left the band for the second album, “Kaleidoscope World,” and the band became a duo. The sound became more authentic with the incorporation of an orchestra, and this sound was strongly felt in the London live performance. This richness was already apparent in the opening performance of the first single, “You On My Mind,” along with their confidence. The intro was skillfully leading the listener into the world of “Breakout,” and the jazzy development of the male vocals in the latter half was also great. Nevertheless, Colleen’s lustrous and sincere vocals, which remained unwavering throughout the performance, gave the listener a sense of security and comfort at the same time. This live performance was a milestone in their career. Live at The Royalty Theatre in London 3rd December, 1989. 01. You On My Mind 02. Twilight World 03. Precious Words 04. Forever Blue 05. Fooled By A Smile 06. Breakout (introduction) 07. Breakout 08. Surrende
