Description
Susie Quatro was an unprecedented phenomenon in Japan in the 1970s. The original recording collection is a shocking appearance. Speaking of Susie’s Live in Japan, the two series “TOKYO 1975 2ND NIGHT” and “TOKYO 1976 2ND NIGHT” that became big hits at our store are still fresh in our memory. Not only is it an original master by the recording artist himself, never released to the public, but it is also a masterpiece of a live album that sharply captures the “truth of the times” with its tremendous quality. It was a time capsule album that was widely loved by people beyond her fans, as it clearly conveyed the charm and energy of that era when not only Siouxsie’s music but also Western music was popular. However, those two sister works did not end there. Susie performed in Japan for five consecutive years from her legendary first visit to Japan in 1974 to 1978. The previous sister works were the “second” and “third”, but there was also an original recording that was a sequel. This work is a masterpiece audience recording set vacuum-packed by the same recorder of the “4th and 5th” performances in Japan. This is a two-disc set with one disc featuring the “June 12, 1977 + August 11, 1978: Nakano Sun Plaza” performances. Two years worth of Susie’s visits to Japan are too huge even in one year, so I’ll omit it, but the important point is “Nakano Sunplaza”. As many of you may have already noticed, Nakano Sunplaza is also where the previous two films were filmed. Not only does it give a sense of unity as a collection by the same recording artist at the same venue, but more importantly, it means that a winning formula has been established for this recording artist. The acoustics, sound output, and audience excitement are all in a state that has been experienced, and it is a masterpiece recording that is destined to become a masterpiece. In fact, both the 1977 and 1978 editions of this work are excellent. Although it is not the type that can be mistaken for a sound board in terms of tone, the core that penetrates the clear air feeling is plenty responsive, and the details and contours are clear. Even the heavy bass, which tends to be sparse, is powerful enough to kick up your heart and shake your senses, and especially in 1978 (DISC 2), the direct sound is as if the sound from the PA was directly picked up at an outdoor venue with zero reverberation. Of course, it is actually an indoor venue, but it is such a vivid masterpiece recording). The master sound that easily jumps through the flow of time is a completely different show from the previous two works. At that time, Susie was not only at the height of her popularity, but she was also at her peak, producing hit songs one after another. The set also includes a large amount of new songs each time, and it is very fresh every year. Let’s summarize the two performances here. 1977/1978 Common – Sadistic Rock Queen (1 song): Glycerine Queen – Euphoric Idol (2 songs): The Wild One / Devil Gate Drive – Quattro White Paper (2 songs): Half As Much As Me / What’s It Like To Be Loved ・Others (1 song): Can The Can 1977 edition only (DISC 1) ・Intoxicating Idol (1 song): Cat Size ・Quatro White Paper (4 songs): The Honky Tonk Downstairs/Heartbreak Hotel/ Make Me Smile/American Lady・Others (1 song): Roxy Roller (Sweeney Todd) 1978 version only (DISC 2)・Intoxicating Idol (1 song): Keep A Knockin’・Quatro White Paper (1 song): Tear Me Apart・Message from Susie (5 songs): Tired Of Waiting (★) / Breakdown (★) / Suicide (★) / The Race Is On (★) / If You Can’t Give Me Love (★) ・Others (1 song): Jailhouse Rock (★: Elvis Presley)…and it goes like this. In fact, the 1977 edition (DISC 1) centered around “AGGRO PHOBIA (Quatro White Paper)” is very similar to the official live album “LIVE AND KICKIN'”, and it seems like you are experiencing that masterpiece in the field. A feeling. On the other hand, the 1978 edition (DISC 2) features half of the new work “IF YOU KNEW SUZI” and is really fresh. You can enjoy the full show without getting tired even if you listen to it continuously from the previous two works. With the vivid sound that became a hot topic in “TOKYO 1975 2ND NIGHT” and “TOKYO 1976 2ND NIGHT,” you can also enjoy the performances in Japan in 1977/1978. This work itself is a wonderful time capsule, but when combined with the previous two works, it is a collection from the same venue and the same recording artist that even “70s Japan” emerges. This is a book that is full of the real thrill of fixed point observation that can only be achieved with audience recording.
