In early spring 2021, a movie called “Sun Ra’s Space is the Place” will be screened in mini theaters. Although it was produced in 1974, it is being shown for the first time in Japan! Now go to the up link. So here comes Sun Ra. Sun Ra was originally a jazz pianist, but he gradually moved in a spiritual direction and built his own world based on his own ideas. From his perspective as a Saturnian, he expanded and created the world of music cosmically. Even Dr. Henri Poincaré could not have predicted such a musical universe. Their activities range from leading an army of people dressed in spacey costumes to performances, to producing groovy albums that at times feel like they’re made for a club. That may have been a difficult introduction, but the sound sources included here are easy for anyone to enjoy. It uses the sound source recorded on stage, commonly known as a band recording, from a performance at a Dutch jazz festival in 1985 when he led his own space music troupe, “Sun Ra Arkestra.” High quality sound with a solid stereo feel. There is some spiritual improvisation with saxophone and percussion, but you can also enjoy a wide variety of songs, including swingy big band and jazz-oriented songs that are easy to listen to.
