Description
A CD reprint series of “Mobile Fidelity” which has attracted a lot of attention. The latest bullet has been decided to be released. Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (MFSL), a manufacturer specializing in analog masters, is a trusted brand that is highly supported by audio enthusiasts around the world. With all of his passion, the sound craftsman has digitized many great albums from master tapes. Among such series, this work includes the CD “UDCD 546” released in 1991. Yes, it’s Sting’s blockbuster hit “…NOTHING LIKE THE SUN.” At our store, we have introduced MFSL’s CD “Ultradisc II” series, and this one is one of the most collectable. In the first place, the concept of MFSL is to borrow original master tapes from record companies and create their own CDs in order to “faithfully bring out the greatest source of the sound contained in the master tapes.” For this reason, we have developed a unique “half-speed mastering” technology, and our deep knowledge and sophisticated know-how in digitizing analog masters has received overwhelming support from collectors. I think you can really feel the craftsmanship of this work in the series, but in this case the situation is slightly different. It’s the album production process. “…NOTHING LIKE THE SUN” was produced entirely digitally (DDD) by producer/engineer Neil Dorfsman. This does not stop with the use of digital tracks for recording, but also completely digital equipment for mixdown and mastering. This is commonplace now, but back in the 1980s, the digital environment was not well developed and the equipment was too expensive, so people avoided it. This was not done unless it was a big name artist who was very progressive and conscious about the sound, but Sting was a rare exception and a pioneer. Therefore, “…NOTHING LIKE THE SUN” has carved its name in history as “one of the first DDD works to earn multi-platinum status.” Only “…NOTHING LIKE THE SUN” does not have “transfer from analog tape”, which MFSL is best at, and the master does not deteriorate over time. It was high quality considering the early CDs. So, is this work the same as other CDs? That’s not really the case. It’s true that there aren’t as many surprising differences as with other works, but the quality is ultimate. And the sound isn’t exactly the same either. As I have mentioned many times before, remastered CDs from the mid-1990s often ruined the original sound by increasing the sound pressure violently due to loudness wars (sound pressure competition), but this work does not. Earlier in the 80’s. The original sound remains intact. The final finish also meets MFSL standards. Even though it is DDD, the final version has an analog feel, and even on Steve Hoffman’s forum where audio enthusiasts gather, it was criticized as “The original CD has a too harsh digital feel” and “MSFL is softer.” has been done. At our store, we have also introduced the “Ultradisc II” edition of his solo 1st album “THE DREAM OF THE BLUE TURTLES” and THE POLICE’s “SYNCHRONICITY”, and you can feel the affinity with those series. Rather than pursuing the ultimate in sound quality, “you can collect masterpieces with MSFL-like sounds”. This is the meaning of “a collectible piece” mentioned above. A CD by “Mobile Fidelity” who reprinted many famous albums with master sound. Following “SYNCHRONICITY” and “THE DREAM OF THE BLUE TURTLES,” you can enjoy “…NOTHING LIKE THE SUN,” which is steeped in MSFL’s aesthetic. That is the real pleasure of this work. Even if you want to get your hands on the actual product now, it will be difficult because it was originally produced in limited numbers.
