Description

It was revealed a few months ago that Mike Millard recorded the “HUMAN RIGHTS NOW!” tour at the Los Angeles Coliseum in 1988, with the release of Tracy Chapman’s “LOS ANGELES 1988: MIKE MILLARD FIRST GENERATION TAPES,” which surprised enthusiasts. However, the fact that he attended the event means that he also recorded other artists. So the newly released Millard master is Sting’s performance from the same event. Although he never attended a Police concert, it seems that Sting’s solo was his favorite sound, and it has now been revealed that he has recorded his solo performance in 1988 as well. In that case, it makes sense that he played the tape when Sting was on stage at the “HUMAN RIGHTS NOW!” show. However, as with Tracy Chapman, there seems to have been a problem with the storage condition of the tape, and this time it was released in mono. Therefore, the sound image is not as close as the usual mirrored quality, but the recording balance is excellent, and even though it is a festival-like show with multiple artists, there is no audience that is too talkative around, and it is as easy to listen as ever. Like many of the artists who participated in this tour, Sting also performed a shortened set that was condensed from his previous tours. However, what became clear with this mirrored master was that even for such shortened sets for package tours, Sting boldly changed the set list. At the time, Sting was at the height of his popularity as a solo artist with the hit masterpiece “NOTHING LIKE THE SUN”, and the tour with the album had started in November of the previous year. In the midst of all this, Sting, who was also the proponent of the concept of the “HUMAN RIGHTS NOW!” tour, also ended up touring a shortened version of the tour he had been on until then, but on this day he boldly cut “We’ll Be Together” and “Englishman In New York”. Both have now become Sting classics, but at the time they were just new songs that had just been released. As a result, the mix rate of Police numbers increased, but I think it’s a good measure if it’s an event live that gathers people other than his own fans. That’s not all. Speaking of the “HUMAN RIGHTS NOW!” tour, the ultra-high quality sound board “FRAGILIDAD” was released in Buenos Aires on the final day, but the set list here in LA about three weeks ago was quite different. The artists who participated in the tour, including Springsteen, performed on stage every night with a fixed set list, but this was Sting’s time when he was aggressive as a solo artist. Even though it was the same Police era number, he took up “When The World Is Running Down, You Make The Best Of What’s Still Around” on this day, and even performed “They Dance Alone” from his latest album, showing his zenith of freedom in changing the song selection even though it was a short package tour. And the exquisite realism that is unique to mirrored recordings is also a big attraction that is different from the excellent sound board Buenos Aires. Above all, when it comes to Sting, the Mirrored Master made a shocking discovery from the “HUMAN RIGHTS NOW!” tour, which seemed to be the only choice for Buenos Aires!
