Description
Steve Hackett has been showing off his endless musician soul by releasing his first concept album in 48 years since VOYAGE OF THE ACOLYTE, THE CIRCUS AND THE NIGHTWHALE. A spectacular video that allows you to fully experience the breathtaking “FOXTROT at FIFTY + HACKETT HIGHLIGHTS” is now available. This work was filmed at the “Stafford performance on April 9, 2024”. This is the best audience shot. This is the latest video that was just released recently, but the show itself was about half a year ago. It is different from the current solo tour. In order to know the situation around there, let’s start by taking a bird’s-eye view of the current ongoing activities. 2024 January 20th + 21st: Fretting (2 acoustic shows) “THE CIRCUS AND THE NIGHTWHALE” released on February 16th “FOXTROT at FIFTY + HACKETT HIGHLIGHTS” March 1st – April 19th: North America (24 shows) ←★Here★ “GENESIS GREATS, LAMB HIGHLIGHTS & SOLO” July 1st – 20th: Europe #1 (13 shows) October 2nd – November 10th: Europe #2 (23 shows) 2025 January 18th + 19th: Fretting (2 acoustic shows) April 4th – 9th: Cruise To The Edge appearance “GENESIS GREATS, LAMB HIGHLIGHTS & SOLO” April 23-May 16: Europe #3 (14 performances)This is the 2024/2025 schedule that has been announced so far. “FOXTROT at FIFTY + HACKETT HIGHLIGHTS”, the 50th anniversary of “Foxtrot”, has been continuing since 2022, but it has now been switched to “GENESIS GREATS, LAMB HIGHLIGHTS & SOLO”, featuring “Dazzling Broadway”. The Stafford performance of this work was just before the cut. It was the 21st concert of the final leg “North America”. This work, which allows you to experience such a show, is a “spectacular view” as written in England. The position is wonderful, and it is shot from the front of the stage (probably the third row) right in front of Hackett. The zoom that boldly attacks from there is amazing. In fact, the camera is not held high, so the shadow of the front audience is also reflected when it is pulled, but the shadow is zoomed out of the frame. The sight of Hackett’s waist-up sticking out of the screen makes you feel like you’re in the front row. The immersive feeling is supported by Hackett’s staging with little movement and the calm audience. Each person scrolls left and right to follow the highlights such as solos, but the main character Hackett is basically in front of the microphone. Because he is the center, it is very stable and extremely easy to see. In addition (naturally), the audience is not the type to make a fuss. The audience who sit and immerse themselves in the music are easy to frame out and do not disturb the highlights. As a result, the spectacular view that can be called “like a one-camera professional shot” continues endlessly. Such a visual beauty depicts a full show that is a little different from the official work “FOXTROT AT FIFTY + HACKETT HIGHLIGHTS: LIVE IN BRIGHTON”, which is also a symbol of the tour. In order to explain the meaning, let’s organize the set while comparing it here. Solo (Part 1: 9 songs) ・The Secret Story of the Circus and the Night Whale: People Of The Smoke (★) / Circo Inferno (★) / These Passing Clouds (★) ・The Journey of the Samurai Priest: A Tower Struck Down / Shadow Of The Hierophant ・Others: The Devil’s Cathedral / Every Day / Basic Instincts / Camino Royale GENESIS (Part 2 / Encore: 8 songs) ・Foxtrot (Complete Reproduction): Watcher Of The Skies / Time Table / Get ‘Em Out By Friday / Can-Utility And The Coastliners / Horizons / Supper’s Ready ・Encore: Firth Of Fifth / Los Endos *Note: The “★” mark indicates songs that could not be heard on the official album “LIVE IN BRIGHTON”. …And so it goes. As in previous years, the “Part 1 = Solo / Part 2 = GENESIS” system is followed, and the highlight is of course the complete reproduction of the second part “FOXTROT”. These are the same as the official work “LIVE IN BRIGHTON”, but what has changed is the first part of the solo. From the start of the show, three new songs from “THE CIRCUS AND THE NIGHTWHALE” are shown in succession. Even though it is a concept album, it was difficult to completely reproduce the new work all at once, so only three songs were shown. And this “new first part” is followed exactly as it is in the current “GENESIS GREATS, LAMB HIGHLIGHTS & SOLO”. In other words, this work is the final form of “FOXTROT at FIFTY” and at the same time, it was also a bridge to the next “LAMB HIGHLIGHTS”. Even so, Hackett, who seems to have come out of the flow of time and space, is wonderful in this work. His singing voice, facial expressions, and guitar do not make you feel his age of 74 at all, and it’s like time has stopped for him, and the aging of the band members who are supposed to be young makes you feel like it’s 2024. I’m also curious about the current “GENESIS GREATS, LAMB HIGHLIGHTS”, which is a condensed arrangement of “Dazzling Broadway”, but first of all, this work will conclude the previous tour. This is a piece that allows you to fully enjoy the final form of “FOXTROT at FIFTY”, which is also delicious with the new songs of “THE CIRCUS AND THE NIGHTWHALE” with an experience that is impossible with the official work. A superb audience shot of the “Stafford performance on April 9, 2024”. It was taken from a special seat right in front of Hackett at the front of the stage (probably the third row), and Hackett’s waist-up is exposed from the screen with a bold zoom. You can fully experience the final form of “FOXTROT at FIFTY”, which is also delicious with the new songs of “THE CIRCUS AND THE NIGHTWHALE” that were not in the official work “LIVE IN BRIGHTON”.
