Description

Introducing a superb live album containing the first night of “Prog Rock Hackett’s Final Settlement”. This Japan tour has already been highly praised in various places, but this work was recorded at the “Club Citta Kawasaki” performance on May 21, 2016. Multiple titles were released all at once this week, so let’s organize them by schedule. ・May 21st: Kawasaki/Club Citta [This work] ・May 22nd: Tokyo/Hibiya Outdoor Concert Hall “PROGRESSIVE ROCK FES 2016” ・May 23rd: Osaka/Namba Hatch “OSAKA 2016” Like this , this Japan tour will be a total of three times. All of them appeared as press CDs. Each one has a different meaning, such as “Kawasaki = a solo full set from the Kanto area”, “Hibiya Noon = a festival with CAMEL etc.”, and “Osaka = a solo full set from the Kansai area”. Among them, this work is the audience album of the first day performance, which is “Kanto Full”. The performer who performed in Kawasaki is a master who has produced many masterpieces in Tokyo and Kanagawa. Last week, we introduced the online sound source “WOLFLIGHT IN KAWASAKI 2016” as the first report of the tour, but of course it is a completely separate recording and uses the master directly given to us by the recording artist himself. And, this recording artist is the one who also worked on the simultaneously released “PROGRESSIVE ROCK FES 2016” and CAMEL’s “TOKYO 2016”. Of course, these three have the same equipment, and coincidentally, the recording position is almost the same, “front third row.” Therefore, the sounds of these three are quite similar. Of course, the sound output from the band side is different, so strictly speaking they are not the same, but the direct feeling that can only be achieved from the closest position that is unaffected by the venue acoustics is amazing. All three are outstanding even in this recording artist’s collection, and they have a super clear sound that can be called “just like a sound board” without hesitation. Actually, whether it’s CAMEL or Hackett, I had assumed that they would only be able to make CDs out of their full solo performances or at festivals, whichever had better sound…but I can’t rate either of them as good or bad. Super high quality sound. All of them were put on CD at once. Hackett’s full set with such a sound is a dazzling world that conveys GENESIS’s progressive rock to the present day. This visit to Japan will feature both solo and GENESIS, and will consist of two parts: “Part 1 Solo Edition” and “Part 2 GENESIS Edition.” The “Part 1 Solo Edition” that appears first focuses only on “progressive rock” from among a variety of works, including his solo debut from the GENESIS era “VOYAGE OF THE ACOLYTE” and his latest work “VOYAGE OF THE ACOLYTE”. WOLFLIGHT” was made into two pieces. “VOYAGE OF THE ACOLYTE” is a masterpiece that has been said to be “more like GENESIS than GENESIS,” and “WOLFLIGHT” was also an album created based on the experience of the GENESIS reissue tour. For that reason, you can fully enjoy the “Hackett style progressive rock” that is similar to GENESIS in “Part 1 Solo Edition”. In fact, “WOLFLIGHT”, which is performed in the “Solo Edition – First Half”, centers on the guitar dancing lightly and splendidly, sometimes delicately, and sometimes roaring in a stately and magnificent manner. This is the essence of Hackett music. The masterpieces of “SPECTRAL MORNINGS” such as “Spectral Mornings” and “Every Day” are inserted there, but there is no sense of discomfort at all. And what I’m really happy about is the second half of the solo version. This also takes the opportunity of “Icarus Ascending” from the masterpiece “PLEASE DON’T TOUCH” to perform four famous songs from “VOYAGE OF THE ACOLYTE” in quick succession. The album cover of Kim Poore, who later married (and later divorced) Hackett, also comes to mind, creating a beautiful fantasy world. I’m happy to hear the usual GENESIS masterpieces, but I can’t believe I can listen to so many of his early solo masterpieces in Japan… In the Japanese performance, the bass was changed from Roine Stolt to Nick Beggs of KAJAGOOGOO, and his bass work is also wonderful. Heavy bass that dramatically enhances the drama and dynamism without sacrificing any sense of fantasy or fragility. All of them are famous recordings that are clearly and clearly engraved. Of course, “Part 2 GENESIS” is also perfect. The sound is rock-solid and unwavering as it is at the official level. This is also divided into a first half and a second half, just like the “solo edition”. “GENESIS Edition – First Half” is a chronological summary of “FOXTROT” to “THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY” with 5 songs from “Get ‘Em Out by Friday” and only the songs that were not played in the last visit to Japan. And, the “GENESIS edition, second half” will get you excited at once with three popular songs: “The Musical Box” at the end of the main part, and “Dance On A Volcano” and “Firth Of Fifth” in the encore. In fact, in the overseas performance, the solo “Clocks” was played instead of “Dance On A Volcano”, but this one is still more exciting. Unlike in other countries, this song is from the era when the band consisted of only four members, but as a result, it has a sense of unity that “from the second part onward = all GENESIS”. This is a live album that is a “full performance in Kanto” during the three days. If you are a Hackett fan, you can complete the three performances, or you can collect the “trilogy by the same recording artist” along with CAMEL’s “TOKYO 2016” and “PROGRESSIVE ROCK FES 2016”, and of course, you can also collect the book. The work alone is one of the highest quality. The paradise of “Hackett-style progressive rock” that emerged in the early summer of 2016. Please enjoy it to the fullest.
