Description
The Gadd Band, led by Steve Gadd, the world’s greatest groove master, featuring Steve’s beloved son Duke Gadd on percussion and Larry’s son Travis Carlton on bass, has released a two-disc set coupling this year’s latest live performance with a 2020 live performance at the same venue for the first time! Steve Gadd, the superhuman drummer with his unrivaled strength and divine technique, and the Steve Gadd Band, led by Miles Landau, the best guitarist on the West Coast, have just added Steve’s son Duke Gadd and Larry’s son Travis Carlton to their lineup. The first performance was held at the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, Arizona on February 15, 2022, and the second performance was held at the same venue on January 21, 2020 with the original lineup of Jimmy Johnson and Larry Goldings. This two-disc set has been recorded in superb high-quality stereo sound with careful mastering by the label! ! Although there is a two-year gap, both concerts started with “Where’s Earth,” which features a dynamic ensemble. The live performance’s unique groove and groovy performance, which easily surpasses studio recordings, quickly captured the hearts of the audience. Keyboardist Kevin Hayes, who is even more talented than Larry, signed with Blue Note in the ’90s, replacing Larry Goldings, and released masterpieces with Ron Carter and Jack DeJohnette, was also active in groups with Sonny Rollins and John Scofield, and is known for his collaborations with Joe Henderson, Pat Metheny and Chris Potter. Led by Hayes, each member plays a solo that hits the spot as a kind of greeting, and Gadd’s simple, yet powerful and precise solo at the end does not make you feel his age, which is also great. Throughout the album, the album features the solos of each member, such as Landau’s excellent guitar work, who was praised by Steve Lukather, the key to the band’s sound, as “one of the top five in the world,” and who later joined Boz Scaggs’ band as Lukather’s successor and was involved in many sessions with Miles Davis and Pink Floyd, and who also plays a lot of solos at the same time, Travis’s bass, which has an excellent sense inherited from his father, and Duke’s playing, which has an extraordinary sense of rhythm and inherited the DNA of his great father. The album gradually builds up, and finally, Gadd’s solo, which is full of Gadd’s style and can be played at any speed. The members, who have reached a higher level of technique, play simply for the enjoyment of music, and play a simple and tight performance with all the fat cut off, with a brilliant groove that seems like it could be done by anyone at first glance, but is impossible to imitate, giving us a dazzling performance!
