Description
After discovering that the name “Steps” was trademarked by a North Carolina band, they changed their name to “Steps Ahead” in 1982. From around this time, although they had a band name, they became more and more a collaboration unit between Mike Mainieri and Michael Brecker. Mike and Michael performed an early show at the Bottom Line in New York in June 1984 with a lineup of keyboardist Warren Barnhart, drummer Peter Erskine, and bassist Tom Kennedy. From the original master of Peter’s so-called Erskine Tapes, which is mostly recorded for recording purposes, the label’s own careful remastering has been applied to the extremely vivid high-quality stereo sound that makes you feel as if you are listening to it from the front row of the stage. A two-disc set completely recorded over an hour and a half is now available for the first time!
