Description

A year and a half after Walter Becker’s death, STEELY DAN’s latest live album has been released by Donald Fagen. This is the definitive album where you can enjoy co-starring with Steve Winwood. This work includes “February 25, 2019 London Performance”. This is a superb audience recording that recorded a joint tour with Winwood. Some of you may have already come to my senses. Yes, this work is a sister work to the well-received Winwood edition “WEMBLEY ARENA 2019”. Currently, Wynwood has no plans other than a joint tour, but STEELY DAN is currently on tour. First of all, let’s check the show’s position from their recent situation.・February 20th – 28th: UK (5 performances) ←★Here★ ・April 25th – May 12th: Las Vegas (9 performances) ・August 30th – September 19th: North America (8 performances)・November 6th-10th: Philadelphia (4 performances) This is the schedule announced so far. The joint tour with Wynwood will only include 5 performances in the “UK” leg. The London performance of this work was the fourth concert. The tour was held with Winwood as the opening act, but two of the five performances (Birmingham and London) also featured co-starring performances. This work is also a valuable record of that. This work is truly the best. After all, it is a work by the same recording artist as the Winwood edition. Those who know about the Wynwood edition have probably already made up their minds, but for those who haven’t, I’ll repeat it again: “This is the audience!?” It’s a dimension that makes you wonder. Judging from the noisy atmosphere before the performance, it is definitely a guest record, but when the performance starts, the clear and active sound of the performance jumps into your ears. The sense of separation between each instrument is wonderful, and it’s hard to believe that it’s a large household of 12 people, and it’s beautifully proportioned. And if you listen carefully with headphones, you can pick up some faint venue sounds, but even that is an advantage rather than a drawback. The exquisite hall sound that does not give a sense of distance gently colors the powerful core, creating a sweet and melting shine. It feels like an official work that has been mixed precisely, but the echo feeling doesn’t feel artificial at all. It is a high quality recording that is precisely because it is a one-shot audience recording. The show drawn with that sound is also exquisite. The set is centered around his masterpiece “AJA”, but also covers everything from his debut work to “GAUCHO”. There were no songs after the restart, and covers such as “Cubano Chant”, “Keep That Same Old Feeling”, and “A Man Ain’t Supposed To Cry” were placed at key points in the show. It is truly a show that is a concentrated reduction of the golden age. The performances are wonderful, and the members are basically the same members who also participated in “EVERYTHING MUST GO.” Also on the keyboard are Jim Beard, who is known for his work with MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA, Mike Stern, Pat Metheny, Bill Evans, etc. The bassist is Freddie Washington, a master who has played with countless greats such as Herbie Hancock, B.B. King, Aaron Neville, Elton John, etc. Of course, it cannot replace Walter, but it still makes you listen to a wonderful ensemble that does not make you feel inadequate. And above all, what makes this work special are the guests. Coupling tour partner Steve Winwood and guitarist Elliot Randall, who previously participated in “CAN’T BUY A THRILL,” “KATY LIED,” and “THE ROYAL SCAM” will appear. Winwood performed “Pretzel Logic” with vocals and organ in the middle of the show, and Randall participated in the last two songs “Reelin’ In The Years” and “A Man Ain’t Supposed To Cry.” “Reelin’ In The Years”, which allows you to listen to the guitar unique to the originator, is also the best, but Winwood is still happy. This work is also a sister work to the Winwood edition, but this co-starring song makes the sister work a complete version. Following Oceania in 2011 and North America in 2016, Wynwood and STEELY DAN’s coupling tour has been realized three times. Among them, it is a masterpiece that recorded the co-starring show only twice with the best sound. This work alone is a live album of a transcendental level, but by combining it with the Wynwood edition, you can fully experience “One Night in London”. A sister work to the same recording artist collection. The SSE Arena, Wembley, London, UK 25th February 2019 TRULY PERFECT/ULTIMATE SOUND Disc 1(55:34) 1. Intro 2. Cubano Chant 3.
