trombone SimoIn recent years, the “Mike Millard Tape” has been digitized from direct master or low generation tapes. This tape was recorded by Mike Millard, a taper well known to fans for his outstanding skills in audience recording. The same label has also released several sound sources using this newly digitized Mike Millard tape as the master, but not all of the Mike Millard tapes have perfect sound quality, and some have room for improvement with considerable work. The “Brushed” series is a series of tapes that have been significantly improved with considerable work. The “Legendary” series is a series of tapes that are close to perfect from the beginning and have little room for improvement in sound quality, with minimal light editing between songs, etc. This time, we have Stanley Clarke from the “Brushed” series. He is an indispensable bassist in 70’s fusion such as Return to Forever and Jeff Beck. Here, he plays a wonderful jazz rock with his own band. It is called the “Brushed” series because the original had a lot of hiss noise and noise reduction was performed. Those new to audience recordings may be bothered by the cheers from nearby audience members, but the performance itself is well recorded.
