Description
Released in 1993, following the release of the album “Old Frame,” this is a highly sought-after recording of a rare club show at the Bottom Line in New York, captured from a completely unreleased soundboard recording owned by the tour staff. The main appeal of this work is, above all, Rollins’ “singing tenor saxophone.” From standards to original compositions, his playing, which freely deconstructs and reconstructs motifs while seemingly enjoying a dialogue with the audience, is truly one of a kind. You can also fully enjoy the bold and humorous phrasing characteristic of Rollins in the 90s. The tense interplay with the band supporting him is also a highlight. The groove-rich rhythm section firmly supports Rollins’ unrestrained solos, creating a dynamism unique to live performances. The recording prioritizes realism, reproducing the atmosphere of the venue realistically, and is like a package of the heat of a club gig. Please note that there are some tracks where the tenor saxophone is slightly off-key, but this is how the master recording itself is.
