Sonic Youth/Germany 1996

This is a master quality, soundboard recording of their appearance on the German TV program Rockpalast on April 7th, during the Euro tour following the release of Washing Machine in 1996. Although there is video footage of this performance, live recordings of Sonic Youth themselves are very limited, so a soundboard recording of a single concert like this is still rare. And since Washing Machine is an album that mainly features vocal numbers, it includes relatively easy-to-listen-to numbers from the album such as Washing Machine, Junkie’s Promise, Saucer Like, Becuz, and Skip Tracer, as well as noisy numbers from their previous albums Dirty Screaming Fields of Sonic Love and Dirty. This is a reproduction of an overwhelming performance that uniquely transformed all elements of Sonic Youth, from their indie days to this point in their career, including noise, avant-garde, and pop punk.
