Description

Sheila E’s early live compilation is here. She made her grand debut with Prince’s production, releasing “The Glamorous Life” on June 4, 1984. This is Sheila E’s earliest soundboard recording, recorded from a live performance at The Palace in LA, remastered from the Westwood One broadcast disc. There is no tension, and it is a great performance that already shows Sheila’s charm and the band’s performance ability at full throttle. And the soundboard includes a funk jam that only the two of them play, with Sheila E on drums and vocals and Prince on bass and vocals. In “Girls And Boys,” Prince sings and plays the bass. And in “Holy Rock,” Prince sings the same way, but there is a part where Sheila sings in unison without harmonizing. When Prince gives instructions such as “gugga,” the performance stops and goes, which is the best technique. Of course, since it was written by Prince, “Holy Rock” is a rap. The audience at that time must have been surprised that Prince was rapping. This recording has a master by 4Dafunk, which is included as Version 1. However, the first part of the recording has some problems, so Version 2, which is the recording from the old bootleg CD “MPLS” that has been remastered to remove hiss noise and normalize the pitch, is also included. And two songs from Saturday Night Live on October 16, 1985, around the time the second single “A Love Bizarre” was released. Prince is not there on “A Love Bizarre.” Therefore, the vocals are Sheila and the guitar is Stephan Birnbaum. Stephan imitates Prince’s singing style, and although it is clear that it is not Prince, it is interesting to see how he captures his characteristics. Stephan participates in the actual song “A Love Bizarre” as a backing vocalist, so it may be that Stephan is singing the parts that you think are Prince’s voice.
