Description
Scott Henderson is a guitarist who admires Miles Davis and John Coltrane. In the 70’s, he participated in Jean-Luc Ponty’s album and shocked the scene with his technique that surpassed even Allan Holdsworth. He then played with Chick Corea’s Electric Band, Joe Zawinul Syndicate, The Players with Jeff Berlin, and his own Tribal Tech. In the 1990’s, he continued to make great strides, such as being voted the best jazz guitarist in a reader’s poll by the prestigious Guitar Player magazine. Then, at the last minute, he formed the ultimate technical power trio “HBC” with Jeff Berlin, who was said to be the best bassist in the world at the time, and Dennis Chambers, the ultimate drummer who was in high demand from all kinds of top artists at the time, from P-FUNK and John McLaughlin to Steely Dan. This trio was officially formed in 2010 (their debut album was released in 2012), but they appeared at the Jarasom Jazz Festival, which is still held annually on October 18, 2009, on Jarasom, one of the islands floating in the Pukkangan River in South Korea. This extremely rare, almost debut performance was recorded at their earliest stage, including the encore, on a superb high-quality soundboard that has been carefully mastered by the label. This two-disc set has been released! The stage began with Herbie Hancock’s “Actual Proof,” which was transformed into an extremely technical, heavy jazz rock piece that was not funky at all (lol) and would later be included on HBC’s debut album in 2012. It then moved on to Weather Report’s “Mysterious Traveler,” written by Wayne Shorter, Weather Report’s “D Flat Waltz,” written by Joe Zawinul, the incredibly cool Billy Cobham’s “Stratus,” and other pieces with a fresh and innovative approach, including Miles Davis’ famous “All Blues,” Coltrane’s “Giant Steps,” and Jeff Berlin’s “The Great Passage.” From Eric Clapton’s “Tears in Heaven,” which features their incredible bass technique, to Shorter’s great song from his Miles era, which has been covered in various ways, to the powerful performance of “Footprints” as an encore, you should listen to their overwhelming performance, which features superhuman solos, complex touches, bold rhythm changes, and other performances that only these three can perform, from 4 beats to hard rock, up-tempo to ballads, and more, and even though they cover a lot of songs, they are a unique group with their own quirks and quirks, and they play their own unique music with a groove that only they can produce!!!
