Description

From the SCORPIONS’ 1982 “BLACKOUT” Japan tour, a must-listen title will be released, recorded with an excellent audience master from the Tokyo Welfare Pension Hall performance on October 4th (day 3), which was the final day. The “BLACKOUT” tour, which became a masterpiece of the band’s revival, had a larger schedule of performances in Japan than ever before. Starting with the Shibuya Public Hall performance on September 23rd, after a circuit of major cities such as Kyoto, Fukuoka, Osaka and Nagoya, they performed three consecutive days of live at the Tokyo Welfare Pension Hall from October 2nd to 4th, leaving a strong impression on fans. In this work “TOKYO BLACKOUT FINAL NIGHT”, the live performance on October 4th, which was the climax of the ’82 Japan tour, is directly recorded again from the original cassette master! This work has been further remastered to achieve a more easy-to-listen-to and powerful sound than the previous titles already released. Listeners can enjoy the incandescent live performance for about 92 minutes! From the opening before the show, the excitement in the venue is recorded realistically and with a well-balanced sound image, vividly recreating the incandescent SCORPIONS live performance. Just after the intro sound effects stop, the riff of “Blackout” explodes after a beat, causing a huge cheer in the venue, and the live performance suddenly reaches its peak (Rudolf Schenker’s cutting is suddenly intense)! The powerful sound that pushes in has a wonderful impact (it’s also nice that the cheers are distant compared to the on-the-air performance), drawing the listeners into the live performance. The thick bass creates a lively and realistic feeling in the hard and speedy “Don’t Make No Promises” that follows. Klaus Meine’s vocals and Matthias Jabs’ lead guitar, which seem to pierce through the bulging sound image, are also a great listen. The sound quality improves as the live performance progresses. In “Loving You Sunday Morning” and “Make It Real,” which are led by energetic MCs, the overall outline of the performance becomes clearer, and Matthias and Rudolf’s playing can be clearly heard. “We’ll Burn The Sky,” recorded with a very clear tone from the intro, is a highlight of the first half of the live performance. The powerful bottom and large-scale sound also enhance the appeal of the song (you can also clearly hear the rhythm of Herman Larebel and Francis Buchholz). The performance of “Lovedrive,” in which the band rushes forward as one, is intense and unparalleled! The cheers are mostly off due to the on-tone music, but the venue must have been quite excited by this great performance. Don’t miss “Coast To Coast,” which features a solid guitar riff and melodic playing. Not only is the guitar realistic, but Francis’ bass also roars! This take makes you realize the momentum of SCORPIONS, which was on the rise. Following this melodic flow, “Animal Magnetism” has a heavy performance that gives off a mysterious and serious mood, leaving a strong impact on the listener. The second half of the live is full of SCORPIONS-like ballads and catchy rock numbers. The three songs that are definitely the highlights of the live are “Always Somewhere”, with Kraus’s heartfelt singing, “Kojo No Tsuki”, which is a promise at Japan tours (the ending is a bit of a joke, as the lyrics are “Chiyo no Matsugai, Kageizuko?”), and “Holiday”, with its wonderful clear acoustic guitar sound. “No One Like You” and “Can’t Live Without You” are both powerful with loud bass sounds. In particular, “Can’t Live Without You” features a long riff that incites the audience, and the break in the latter half of the 4-minute range is also impressive. The following “He’s A Woman, She’s A Man” and “Dynamite” are also crisp performances that are typical of SCORPIONS, and they liven up the final stage of the live show (the 4-minute break in “Dynamite” also realistically records the audience going wild). The encore features the already classic “The Zoo” and the fast-paced “Another Piece Of Meat”, which creates a wonderful climax to the live show! It’s a shame that the ending of “Another Piece Of Meat” fades out due to the master’s circumstances! The last song, “Can’t Get Enough”, is not included, but this work allows you to enjoy the final day of the ’82 Japan tour with the greatest power. Along with the press CD title “SHINJUKU BLACKOUT” (October 2nd) and the classic “DEFINITIVE TOKYO BLACKOUT” (October 3rd), this is a must-listen title that lets fans relive the Tokyo Welfare Pension Hall performance in October 1982.
