Description

The big festival “DAY ON THE GREEN” that was performed in the midst of the heyday. The complete live album is here. What is engraved in this work is, of course, the “August 31, 1985 Oakland performance”. It is a stereo soundboard recording. Speaking of the “LOVE AT FIRST STING” era, not only did the album shine multi-platinum, but “WORLD WIDE LIVE” was also a hit, and it was the heyday when they came to Japan twice. First of all, let’s look back on their journey and check their position at the festival. 1984 January 23rd – February 29th: Europe #1 (27 shows) March 17th – 25th: North America #1a (6 shows) {March 27th “LOVE AT FIRST STING” released} March 27th – July 18th: North America #1b (80 shows) July 30th – August 12th: Asia/Japan #1 (9 shows) August 14th – September 2nd: North America #2 (13 shows) October 26th – December 3rd: Europe #2 (26 shows) 1985 January 15th + 19th: ROCK IN RIO (2 shows) January 28th – February 7th: Japan #2 (8 shows) {June 20th “WORLD WIDE SCORPIONS LIVE released ・June 22nd: Knebworth performance ・August 24th – September 2nd: North America #3 (4 performances) ←★Here★ 1986 ・August 16th – September 5th: Europe #3 (7 performances) This is SCORPIONS from 1984 to 1986. 1984 was the most live performance of their career, along with 1991 during the “CRAZY WORLD” era, and they added more the following year and the year after that. Moreover, they appeared in a series of historic festivals, such as SUPER ROCK ’84 in Japan, the first ROCK IN RIO, and the Knebworth Festival, and it was truly a peak period. And “DAY ON THE GREEN” can be said to be the North American version of such a huge festival. The first of the two days was “Heavy Metal Day”, where SCORPIONS performed alongside such distinguished acts as METALLICA, RATT, Y&T, Yngwie Malmsteen, and VICTORY (the second day was Pop Day, where WHAM!, THE POINTER SISTERS, and KATRINA AND THE WAVES appeared). This stage is also historic for the superb professional records left behind. METALLICA, some of which have been made official, is also famous, but the biggest shock is still SCORPIONS, the final act. In 2013, a 70-minute long pro shot also appeared, and it reigns over our press DVD “DAY ON THE GREEN 1985”. However, this pro shot was not complete either. The drum solo and the two following songs “Another Piece Of Meat” and “Dynamite” were not included, and the final “Can’t Get Enough” also had the guitar solo “Six Strings Sting” cut. The decisive quality left a “little bit more” feeling. This work is a complete version that clears up such feelings. The two songs + α that were missing on the sound board are complemented by the best audience recording, and it is a live album that allows you to enjoy the full show on the day (strictly speaking, the audience recording is also missing only the last “Jean!” of the live, which is a few seconds (about 3 seconds?). What is such a long-awaited full show like? Let’s organize the set here. Love Drive, Loving You Sunday Morning, Coast To Coast, Holiday, Another Piece Of Meat (AUD recording), Can’t Get Enough (partially AUD supplemented), Animal Magnetism, Make It Real, The Zoo, Blackout, Blackout, Can’t Live Without You, Dynamite (AUD recording), No One Like You, Forbidden Tattoo, Coming Home, Bad Boys Running Wild, Big City Nights, Still Loving You, Rock You Like A Hurricane, etc. To put it bluntly, the tension and the flow of the sudden penetration at the huge festival are enormous, even though it is the same as “WORLD WIDE LIVE”. And what is surprising is the superb quality of the supplementary audience recording that does not impair the natural flow. If you have seen the pro shot of this show, you will know the direct connection feeling and the intense and unparalleled direct feeling that are exposed to the core, but it does not change even if it is switched to the audience recording. Of course, even if you wait with headphones thinking “It’s about to change”, you won’t notice it… That’s an exaggeration, but if you play it normally on the speakers, you’ll feel like “Huh? Before I knew it, there were cheers.” Since it’s an outdoor festival, there is no echo and the PA output is picked up directly, but the real sound board is connected with a close-up recording that is “like a sound board”. SCORPIONS lost the genius Uli Jon Roth and also cut the god Michael Schenker. Why did they overcome the handicap of being from Germany and become a global superstar? Because it became a pleasant sound to the ears? There were plenty of such bands all over the world, but it was their live performances that made SCORPIONS stand out. During the “LOVE AT FIRST STING” era, they swept huge festivals around the world and rose to become icons of HR/HM. This is a live album that allows you to fully experience “DAY ON THE GREEN no Yoru”, one of the highlights of that era. A masterpiece that approaches the “charm of HR/HM” itself, not just the band SCORPIONS. Stereo soundboard recording of the “DAY ON THE GREEN, August 31, 1985” performance. A complete version that complements the drum solo, “Another Piece Of Meat”, “Dynamite”, and the guitar solo “Six Strings Sting” in the final song “Can’t Get Enough”, which were not included in the previously excavated pro shot sound, with audience recordings on the day. What is surprising is the superb quality of the supplementary audience recording. There is almost no sense of incongruity even when lined up with the direct-connected soundboard with the core exposed. It is probably picking up the PA output directly with zero echoes only at outdoor festivals, but it is still extremely thick. This is the birth of a historic live album that allows you to fully experience the highlight performance that served as the finale of the Kyoai Festival during its heyday.
