Description
This is a must-see and must-have video for fans, featuring high-quality multi-camera professional shot footage of SAXON’s latest live performance on the Wacken Open Air stage on August 2, 2012. SAXON appeared as the headline act on the main stage “Black Stage” on the second day of Wacken. For about an hour and a half, they excited the huge crowd that filled the huge field with a spectacular performance that was worthy of being the representative of modern British heavy metal. This is SAXON’s fourth appearance at Wacken, following 2004, 2007, and 2009. (Recently, the official DVD “Heavy Metal Thunder – Live – Eagles Over Wacken” was released, which contains a recording of a live performance Saxon performed at Wacken in the past.) The stage started close to 9 o’clock, but since the sun sets late in Europe, the sky was still bright, and as the stage progressed, it gradually got darker, which was very dramatic, typical of overseas festivals. The opening song was the classic Heavy Metal Thunder, and both the stage and the audience were extremely excited from the very first song. After Biff’s short but powerful greeting, another classic, Power And The Glory, exploded. The fast-paced melody also got the crowd excited. The set is dominated by numbers from the golden age of the early 80s, but I’ve Got To Rock (To Stay Alive) from 2007’s “The Inner Sanctum” and Battalions Of Steel from 2009’s “Into The Labyrinth” are also played in the first half, fully showcasing the undiminished charm of Saxon, who survives in the modern era. (The audience is as excited as the representative songs.) In the middle to the latter half of the show, with two interviews in between, you can imagine the excitement of the performance and the venue just by listing the titles: The Eagle Has Landed, Wheels Of Steel, Strong Arm Of The Law, 747 (Strangers In The Night), and Princess Of The Night. The tremendous call and response between Biff and the audience during the song is also a highlight. Before Strong Arm Of The Law, you can see Nibs Carter, who is carried on the shoulders of a roadie, livening up the bass intro. Before Princess Of The Night, you can hear Biff’s MC tribute to the Scorpions, who will be on the same stage with him on the final day. Princess Of The Night is a tremendous excitement that can be said to be the climax of the show! All the members gather at the front of the stage and play a tremendous performance. This is a must-see! The sound, editing, and camera work are so amazing that it could be officially released as it is. A truly moving piece. Original menu included.
