Description

The 1983 Japan tour is a legendary one among enthusiasts. Here is a leaked soundboard album that exposes the wonderful performance. This tour was the second golden age for SANTANA. SANTANA, who had their heyday in the 70s, continued to visit Japan, but the scale gradually decreased. However, the Japan tour accompanying “HAVANA MOON” under the name of Carlos Sanatana saw a long-awaited double-digit performance. This was the last large-scale tour up to this point, and has not been realized since. First of all, let’s get a feel for their popularity with the schedule.・July 3: Yokohama Cultural Gymnasium ・July 4: Hamamatsu Civic Hall ・July 6: Osaka Festival Hall “HAVANA MOON IN OSAKA” ・July 7: Osaka Festival Hall ・July 9: Nagoya City Public Hall ・July 10: NHK Hall 【This work】 ・July 11: Utsunomiya City Cultural Hall ・July 13: Gunma Music Center ・July 14: Chiba Prefectural Cultural Hall ・July 15: Nakano Sun Plaza *FM broadcast ・July 16: Nippon Budokan A total of 11 performances over 14 days. You can see that it was a very busy schedule. This work contains the “July 10, 1983: NHK Hall Performance” which is right in the middle of that. This work is a superb sound board leaked by a related party. Due to the popularity of this tour, the soundboard of “July 11: Utsunomiya Cultural Hall” and the radio broadcast of “July 15: Nakano Sun Plaza” are also famous, but both of them were incomplete versions. However, this work is a direct CD of the original cassette handed over by the people involved, and the show is recorded in its entirety. The “leak” and “length” are surprising, but what is even more amazing is the sound itself. It seems to be a monitor mix recorded directly from the soundboard desk, and the performance comes out without any decoration. There are no overdubs, no post-added effects, and no traces of fine-tuning. The sound that came out the moment Carlos picked is recorded online exactly as it was. On top of that, the freshness of the master is abnormal. The cassette of the people involved mentioned above was recorded from the soundboard desk and had been sleeping for many years without being dubbed or played. It really brings the music and performance from the live site to the present day in a moment of teleportation. And yet, the balance is amazing, so it’s amazing. It is not unusual for a recording with such a background to have a rough mix and a messy balance, but somehow all the instruments are beautifully balanced. In fact, this recording first appeared on the MASTERPORT label more than 10 years ago as “TOKYO TALES”, and at that time it was highly praised as “the vividness of the direct sound without any processing is exceptional”, “truly a “NAKED” sound”, and “the best title that should be called a must-have item with very high points”. In this work, the original master has been re-digitized and meticulously mastered. Of course, the “sound” of the original cassette is not damaged at all, and the goal is to completely reproduce the “sound of the scene”. The ultimate form of extremely rare and exquisite sound has been realized. It is wonderful because SANTANA is drawn with that intense and direct sound. The aforementioned specialist magazine also praised it as “the performance on this day lasted for more than two hours, was full of content, and was one of the best performances representing the 1983 live performances”, and as if to prove that the words are not false, a hot performance erupts in abundance. In “Tales Of Kilimanjaro”, the guitar riff starts to make you tense, and in “Gypsy Queen”, the unreverbed percussion overwhelms with a crisp attack sound. “Oye Como Va” has a vivid delicate phrase and sound switching, “Incident At Neshabur” features a skilled hi-hat technique, and so on. It’s a live album where all the songs, all the instruments, and all the notes sound directly in your brain. It’s more beautiful than a simple sound board directly connected to the desk, and much more vivid than an FM sound source. It’s a three-disc set where the miraculous sound flows endlessly from the opening to the ending. The superb audience album “HAVANA MOON IN OSAKA” released the other day was also very well received, but this work is a miraculous leaked sound board from the people involved. It’s a piece that allows you to experience the same superb concert with an even more valuable and vivid sound. A rare and miraculous live album in the history of SANTANA’s visit to Japan.
