Description
This is a professional shot from the Golden Rose Pop Festival in Montreux on May 1, 1971. It includes some rough footage from that time and footage from a rebroadcast. “Waiting” is cut, and “Incident At Neshabur” starts halfway through. There is some image distortion, but it is still enjoyable. Neal Schon, who was only 17 years old at the time, is very cute. And his hair is afro-like, so Prince may have been conscious of it. Jose Areas does not seem to be there, but still, “Jungle Strut” with almost the strongest members, Cork Escobedo’s percussion is also amazing, with his large sunglasses and see-through tank top, but the drumming of the young genius Michael Shreve is so cool that it leaves you dumbfounded. “Taboo” features Gregg Rolie’s wilder vocals, Neil on rhythm guitar, Carlos’s flexible guitar phrases, and David Brown’s dancing bass, creating a melancholy performance. The twin guitars jumping in from the percussion, drums, and electric piano ensemble of “Toussaint L’Overture” gives me goosebumps. Michael Carabello’s percussion is also amazing. “Soul Sacrifice” with Santana and Neil’s guitars sticking to the reckless backing is so good that I can’t help but smile, this is the best performance by the strongest members. Although it is cut at the end, Michael Shrieve’s spectacular drum solo is a must-see. The elegance of the twin guitars in “Oye Como Va”, the unified band ensemble of “Savor”, and Santana shaking the maracas in “Jingo” are adorable. And the last song is the exquisite “Gumbo” with the best riff. The audience is headbanging and dancing. There is also footage of the rebroadcast and interviews. Super Pop. Golden Rose Pop Festival.
