Description
The Lampinski Collection suddenly took the world by storm in 2009. Among them, the 2CD “HEMISPHERES IN BOSTON”, which captured a vast space opera with an exceptional sound, was a masterpiece among masterpieces. This work is an audience album that contains the “Providence performance on January 12, 1978” of “DRIVE ‘TIL YOU DIE TOUR 1977-1978”, which was exactly one year before that (the main part was performed on January 11, 1979). ). Of course, it was recorded by Dan Lumpinski, just like the main story. It was released as the second part of his collection RUSH, and even at the time of its release it was normally released as “PROVIDENCE 1978”, making enthusiasts wonder, “How amazing is Rampinski…?” As it has become such a hot topic, the sound of this work is also at a transcendental level. As expected, compared to the main volume “HEMISPHERES IN BOSTON”, which can be said to be the “extreme of Lumpinski sound”, it is a half step away in terms of distance, but there was a discussion as to whether it should be made into a 3-disc set along with 1979. That’s about it. Another drawback was that it faded out before the coda of the last song “2112”, so the idea of a 3-disc press was not realized. Unfortunately, there were few recordings of “DRIVE ‘TIL YOU DIE TOUR 1977-1978”, and there was no quality that could complement this work (in other words, this work is the number 1 recording!!). Although I missed out on the 3-disc set, I was able to deliver it as 1 CD. In addition, this work is a rare undercard performance at RUSH. At that time, he had already achieved success as a main act, but with the exception of “January 12th Providence”, “January 13th Uniondale” and “January 14th New Haven”. It was the opening of BLUE OYSTER CULT, and this was RUSH’s last undercard concert. At that time, RUSH was at its most energetic period in its history, performing a full set of 1.5 to 2 hours each night on approximately 140 dates, including “DRIVE ‘TIL YOU DIE TOUR” and “TOUR OF THE HEMISPHERES.” I did. The recording time of this work is about 50 minutes, but that 50 minutes is not a full-length live clip, but a 50-minute condensed version of the band’s potential at its peak. With its concentration and density, it is a tremendous performance that is unprecedented in history. The equipment trouble that occurs at the ending of “By-Tor And The Snow Dog” shows this density in a surprising way. It was supposed to continue into “Xanadu” with Geddy Lee’s pedal bass sounding, but it was cut off. “Xanadu” begins with just Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart, but perhaps Geddy and the crew were in a hurry to resolve the trouble, and there is no follow-up with the bass guitar. I thought that the performance would continue without the bass pedal, but it was just in time for the excitement of the intro. Normally, they would have stopped the performance at that point and resolved the problem, but on this day, they were running out of time on the opening act and couldn’t make the set too short, so they focused on big compositions. You can listen to a thrilling scene that is extremely rare because it is an undercard performance. “HEMISPHERES IN BOSTON”, which fully covers the big show of the SF blockbuster, and “A FAREWELL TO PROVIDENCE”, the gravitational singularity that compresses its concentration to the utmost. All of these are masterpiece sets of tour bests created by master craftsman Dan Lampinski. Please enjoy it to the fullest!
