Description

“AVALON TOUR 1982-1983” can be said to be the “end point of ROXY MUSIC”. The best stereo soundboard album is here. This work contains the “May 26, 1983 New York performance”. It is the second day of the traditional venue “Radio City Music Hall” performance that took place for two consecutive days. This show is also broadcast on FM radio and has become a long-standing staple, but this work is a superb live album that reigns at the top. There are two points to this work. One is the extremely wonderful superb sound. Most of the air checks known from the past were scattered with noise, but this work is a master that appeared in recent years. Not only is there no noise-like noise at all, but even the “ringing” is the best ever. Clear highs that seem to make you see the waveforms of the sound, lustrous midrange, lows that even feel tactile from the rise of the bass to the muffling… Of course, the recording and mixing are done by a completely professional broadcast, but the design is more clear and prominent than ever before. Although the broadcast and sound board are all different, this work is a very elegant work with a completely official sound that runs through the entire work. Another point is the “more than official show” depicted by the sound. The official live albums “THE HIGH ROAD” and “HEART STILL BEATING” were also released from this “AVALON TOUR 1982-1983”, but both are excerpts. In contrast, this work is a full live performance that lasts about 98 minutes. Aside from “THE HIGH ROAD”, which was an EP, there are plenty of masterpieces that could not be heard even in “HEART STILL BEATING”. Starting with “Do The Strand” from “FOR YOUR PLEASURE”, they also play “The Main Thing”, “Take A Chance With Me” and “Tara” from the immortal masterpiece “AVALON”. Including Jimmy Maren’s percussion solo that comes in from “Tara”, you can fully enjoy the gorgeous ensemble of this era from every corner. The ensemble is also very fulfilling, which can be said to be the “end point of ROXY MUSIC”. First of all, it is wonderful that there are no overdubs scattered throughout “HEART STILL BEATING”, but the position of the show is also a point. Before explaining the meaning, let’s first take a look at the full picture of ROXY MUSIC’s last tour “AVALON TOUR 1982-1983”. [1982] August 12th – September 19th: Europe (19 shows) ← *Official edition September 22nd – October 1st: UK (8 shows) [1983] February 1st – 10th: Japan (7 shows) April 29th – May 28th: North America (21 shows) ← ★ Here ★ This is the whole picture of the tour. All official live albums were recorded at the beginning of the tour “Europe” leg, and “HEART STILL BEATING” was a fairly early performance, the 10th performance in France. In comparison, this work is the final “North America”. It is also the last performance, the third performance from the end, and it is the state that they reached after seeking evolution. In particular, this tour was a large group with eight support members in addition to the three people, Brian Ferry, Phil Manzanera, and Andy Mackay. The ensemble that became more mature the more they performed is reaching its peak. To be honest, because it is a broadcast sound source, the program DJ’s comments are sandwiched (at the beginning and ending, “Tara” and just before “Do The Strand”. The only time the musical sound overlaps is for a moment at 20 seconds into “Tara”), but that is the only drawback that seems to be a drawback. Complete recording that could not be experienced on the official version, liveliness without overdubs, and a ripe ensemble… It is a live album with a completely official quality, but with a lot of flavor that exceeds the official version.
