Description
From a label that is a must-have for Stones fans, here is a compilation of live recordings from TV appearances in the UK and the US during their time with UK Decca. First, tracks 1-2 are taken from “The Arthur Haynes Show” aired on February 8, 1964, which was their first TV appearance in the UK. Here, they play one song each from their second UK single and their first EP. Although this show was a long-running program, not all episodes still exist, and the Stones’ appearances were recorded from 16mm film that had been miraculously preserved. The playback speed error that occurred during the kinematic duplication has been corrected by pitch adjustment to ensure that the recording is accurate. The following tracks 3-5 are taken from the popularity poll concert hosted by NME magazine in the UK on April 26, 1964. This was a live performance right after the release of the third single “NOT FADE AWAY” and the first album “THE ROLLING STONES”. This was also recorded on 16mm film from the original video recording, and the sound was copied to a magnetic recording track instead of an optical recording track, so it is recorded with the same high sound quality as the original master. Tracks 6-9 were recorded the following year from a popularity poll concert also sponsored by NME magazine. A 2-inch unedited video master remains, and all the songs except for track 9 are already in circulation in good quality. However, this video master seems to be the sub tape of the video that was running on the main and sub at the time, and track 9 is not included because the tape change occurs between “THE LAST TIME” and “EVERYBODY NEEDS SOMEBODY TO LOVE”. In other words, the entire Stones set was aired on the original broadcast in 1965, but the backup master of “BIG BEAT 65 PART-1” featuring the Stones, which was edited for airing, was lost from the archives of ABC TV in the UK, so there was no video left, so this time we have recorded all the songs from the air check recording from the original airing at the time of the broadcast. Since it was recorded with a microphone through the TV speaker, the quality is far from the original broadcast sound source, but the pitch correction is also perfect. And tracks 10-18 record three appearances on “Ready Steady Go”, which was recorded from a TV studio live from 1964 to 1965. By the way, these tracks have no video at all and have been phantom sound sources for a long time, but they were recorded from a private tape of a British person who was air checking them at the time of the airing this time, and there are many highlights to listen to, such as track 12, which is a valuable live version, and track 14, which is usually played in the key of A, but was played in the key of G on this day. Furthermore, tracks 19-23 are the complete recording of “The Mike Douglas Show” in the US in June 1964. This includes the missing MC of “NOT FADE AWAY” from the previous version, and the last “I JUST WANT TO MAKE LOVE TO YOU” which was cut, making this the complete version. Although tracks 20 & 23 are lip-synced records, the quality is generally good as the audio is from archived footage from the 2-inch master. The following track 24 is a line recording from a short tour of Germany in September 1965. Although the program name and broadcast data have not been revealed until now, it is a completely different take from the live takes already released in Münster, Hamburg, and Berlin, and Brian’s introduction to the song in the intro is from a British radio program called “TEEN TIME” in October 1965. Track 25 is a rare take recently discovered from the British TV show “Frost on Saturday” with Mick’s live vocals on a different backing track from the original. And the last tracks 26 & 27 are from the familiar American TV show “David Frost Show”, where Mick’s live vocals are on the backing track of the official take. The CD is a must-have for fans, as it is a collection of rare TV live recordings with a total of 79 minutes and 30 seconds of full volume content. By the way, the cover photo on the front is a rare color photo of the band’s appearance on BBC-TV’s “Top of the Pops” on January 1, 1964, where they lip-synced “I WANNA BE YOUR MAN”.
