Description
This is the fifth volume of valuable studio sessions brought to you by Art Collins Tapes. This time, we will listen to a lot of the ’81 “TATTOO YOU” Sessions from a total of three tape numbers 5, 20, and 21. As you know, the basic tracks of the album “TATTOO YOU” were diverted from unused tracks from the album production that went back in the past, such as “GOAT’S HEAD SOUP”, “BLACK AND BLUE”, “SOME GIRLS”, and “EMOTIONAL RESCUE”. Therefore, the production start times for each song vary. This was due to the rift between Mick and Keith that had begun to become evident around this time, and recording engineer Chris Kimsey painstakingly dug up past tapes and added overdubs to them. Ta. Many remixes and overdubs were added endlessly to achieve the best results, and this work is the culmination of takes and mixes that were not used on the official album. A classic outtake of “TATTOO YOU” is “ALL INSIDE OUR CRAZY DREAMS” which imitates the artwork of the original analog 2LP made in Germany. This DAC edition was released at a time when only analog CDs were available, or CDs made from sound sources several steps lower than the masters used for analog production, and even today it is a great collection of outtakes related to tattooed men. This is a very popular record. This “VOL.5” includes quite a number of takes that overlap with “ALL INSIDE OUR CRAZY DREAMS”, but compared to “ALL INSIDE~”, which had a slightly mature finish in the high range, it is much clearer. It sounds like a good high range. This release is also a large volume of high-quality stereo soundboard quality with a total of 32 tracks recorded for a long time, 79 minutes 04 seconds for DISC-1 and 76 minutes 37 seconds for DISC-2, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the world of Storrs. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. The different mix notations listed below range from minute variations such as a difference in the balance of an overdubbed guitar, to more obvious ones such as hearing a part of the previously uncollected count or a different take of the vocals themselves. It varies, and you’ll discover something new each time you listen to it. Tracks 7, 8, and 9 on DISC-1 are a group of tracks that I have never heard before, and they are jam tracks with saxophone as the main part, and I wonder if these are also collaborations with jazz giant Sonny Rollins. However, according to those in the know, the track was recorded in 1979 or 1980, and the saxophone was played by Bobby Keys. Sonny plays three songs, “Slave,” “Waiting for Friends,” and “Neighbours,” and you can listen to plenty of them, including the improvised parts that were cut on the record. Thanks in part to Bob Clearmountain’s clever mixing, the album reached number one on the US charts. Despite the complex production environment, this work is a must-have item of the new standard alternate collection that conveys another side of the popular album representing the ’80s Stones, which still contains many standard songs at live performances.
