Description

“The best of the Stones in the analog era doesn’t have good sound quality” is a catchphrase that is often muttered among analog fans. There must have been many analog fans who spent a lot of money to buy the original versions of the first official best of albums, “Big Hits [High Tide And Green Grass]” and “Through The Past, Darkly (Big Hits Vol. 2)”, and then looked up to the sky when the sound from the turntable to the amplifier came out, saying, “What? Such a poor sound…is this really the Decca?” In the 70s, there was a parade of best of albums with incomprehensible song selections from the 60s. The only one that was satisfactory in terms of song selection and sound quality was “Hot Rocks 1964-1971”. On the other hand, when it comes to the best of the Stones Records, only three albums have been released: “Made In The Shade”, “Time Waits For No One (Anthology 1971-1977)” and “Sucking In The Seventies”. However, the latter two contain songs that can only be heard on these albums. This time, I would like to introduce “Time Waits For No One (Anthology 1971-1977),” a best album that has never been released on CD and tends to be forgotten. The reason for the release of this album is that the contract for distribution of Stones Records in countries other than the United States was changed from Atlantic to EMI, so this best album was planned as the last Atlantic album in 1977. The following year, 1978, “Some Girls” was released by EMI, so this album was released for a very short period of time, which may have made it difficult to obtain and easy to forget. Also, the W mark that should have been there in 1977 is not displayed on the label, and it says “Manufactured in the UK.” Now, for analog fans, the biggest attraction of this album is that the rim shot sound of “Time Waits For No One,” the title track with Mick Taylor’s guitar explosion and a killer tune for Taylor fans, is recorded until the end. When I dropped the needle with that in mind, I was surprised to find that all the songs on the album had a very thick, good sound throughout the entire album. Why is this? From here on, it’s just a guess. When producing this album, instead of using the masters from the existing albums, each selected song was extracted from the master tape and remastered. As a result, “Time Waits For No One,” which was recorded on the album while fading out, was mistakenly recorded in its complete version. However, there is no credit to that effect on the album. . . The original UK version is used, which is natural for Stones enthusiasts who obtained this album at the time of its release. Of course, the quality of the record is also excellent.
