Description
The Stones’ second best-of album, Through the Past Darkly (Big Hits Vol. 2), is now available on the original US pressing! This album was released in the UK and US in September 1969, after Taylor joined the band. While the first best-of album, Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass), featured a different tracklist and cover art, this release features the same design but with a special eight-track cut. However, the tracklist is different (the US release features 11 tracks, while the UK release features 12, with different tracklists and track order). The US release features both the number-one hits in the US, “Paint It, Black” on side A and “Honky Tonk Women” on side B. What’s more, “Honky Tonk Women” was released shortly after the album’s number-one hit. Above all, the US release’s hit-packed offering is truly captivating. In the vinyl era, the tracklist for the US version was generally released in North America, and the Japanese LP had the same content as the UK version, so this selection may be a little less familiar (although the 2002 remaster used the US version). The UK version has a milder sound quality, while the US version has a rougher feel and a higher sound pressure level. All tracks are recorded in stereo, except for “Mother in the Shadow” (which was recorded in mono in the 2002 remaster) which is recorded in pseudo-stereo.
