The long-forgotten soundboard album from the Rolling Stones’ 1990 Urban Jungle Tour is finally here. This tour produced a byproduct of the Wembley Stadium radio broadcast in the movie “AT THE MAX,” but there are also television broadcasts of Barcelona performances. This was the only professional shot video from the Urban Jungle Tour before “AT THE MAX” was released. However, it was unfortunate that it was broadcast in Spain and England, which were the PAL areas defined by the video standards at the time, and it took some time for it to spread among Japanese enthusiasts. Riding on the Stones fever at the time, the video of Atlantic City was circulating within a month of its broadcast, and the situation at the time, when TV footage of Tokyo Dome was sweeping the fanatics, was also a big factor. As a result, despite being a relatively modern video, aired on TV in 1990, it ended up being unrecognized by enthusiasts. It was difficult to downgrade the video quality due to PAL conversion in the videos of the time, and this also raised the hurdles for viewing. In addition, unlike Atlantic City and Tokyo Dome, the incomplete 90-minute broadcast with some songs cut seems to have added to its lack of presence. In any case, although it was a professional shot video, the Barcelona performance became overwhelmingly maniacal, but several years have passed since its broadcast, and once again it has become a bit of a hot topic, albeit only among maniacs. I once called you. That is the soundboard album “LIVE ALL OVER THE WORLD 90” based on the stereo audio of the video. Due to the disadvantages of PAL conversion, only monaural audio videos were available, but the fact that the Barcelona performance was recorded in stereo became popular among enthusiasts. Unfortunately, however, it was released as a single CD, and there was no way the entire 90-minute broadcast could fit on it, resulting in the major drawback that three songs were cut. As a result, the stereo recording ended up being one-sided, and for better or worse, it ended up being positioned as a soundboard album that was only recognized by enthusiasts. However, the sound quality is certainly of official class high quality. Therefore, the label WONDERLAND, which has been releasing a collection of sound sources by various artists in recent years (although there are many copies), also copied “LIVE ALL OVER THE WORLD 90” in a box called “URBAN JUNGLE EUROPE 1990”. However, it was not just a copy, but an attempt was made to record the best version of the songs that had been cut, and even “Almost Hear You Sigh”, which was only included in the Spanish broadcast. That in itself was a great point of view, but the video that was the source of the added songs was in poor condition, and there were a few places where the songs fell into mono. On the contrary, the highlight “Almost Hear You Sigh” is completely monaural. As you can see from this, Barcelona in 1990 was treated as the ultimate in misfortune. Therefore, this time we set out to create a new definitive version, but the video itself that was the basis for it was completely different from past releases. “LIVE ALL OVER THE WORLD 90” was a stereo recording from the British version that was aired during the Urban Jungle tour, but this version was later broadcast on Japanese satellite broadcasts (although a lot of time has passed since then). , so it did not attract much attention). As a result, we were able to create footage of Barcelona with much better image quality, and by using that as the basis for this time, we were able to record it with a stereo soundboard recording that easily surpassed “LIVE ALL OVER~”. . Even so, the songs that were cut have been reborn as a finish that can be fully enjoyed as a superb stereo soundboard album without the patchwork feeling like the WONDERLAND box. I also obtained a better copy of the Spanish broadcast of “Almost Hear You Sigh” in question. Originally, the Spanish broadcast does not have as distinct a stereo effect as the British version, but it is still broadcast in a loose stereo, and you can enjoy it in a natural state that is incomparable to the box-like mono sound of WONDERLAND. That’s the point. A further factor that weakened the presence of this Barcelona sound source is that the stereo soundboard recording of Madrid, which was the next performance location, was leaked at the end of the century. Not only is it a sound board, but the presence of a big highlight called “Blinded By Love”, which was performed only in Madrid, is also huge. I can’t help but feel that this has made Barcelona even more looked down upon by enthusiasts. However, in terms of the content of the performance, Barcelona’s is overwhelmingly better. First of all, “Sad Sad Sad” has a weird running feel to it, so it’s nothing short of hilarious. The originally up-tempo song is played in a more out-of-control tone than usual. The song “Almost Hear You Sigh” can be called even more extreme than that. Mick sings with a passion that can no longer be compared to that of Madrid. Furthermore, Keith, who missed the guitar solo in Madrid, has wonderful phrases here. In the first place, in Madrid, Mick clearly sings with a suppressed voice until the middle of the show, and the difference in voltage is obvious. In other words, the Stones legend that the performance and Mick’s singing become more powerful when video recording is involved was alive and well here. And the Barcelona sound source has an exquisite audio mix, and Keith and Ronnie’s guitar balance is also full of Stones-like characteristics. In that case, it would be an essential condition that Keith be on the right. Of course, this point has been carefully adjusted for this release. A unique mix that highlights the charm of these performances is recorded in the highest sound quality ever. Furthermore, the balance of the audience chorus heard in the call and response scenes of “Miss You” and “It’s Only Rock’n Roll” is also exquisite. The sound source that was completely overlooked has now been released as the best version. There is no doubt that you will be surprised and wonder if the sound source is this good!
