Description

The release of the 2018 “NO FILTER” tour items has entered the fourth week of the tour. Following last week’s Manchester, this time we will release the Edinburgh performance that concluded the week. Since it was only a month since the start of the tour, the performance in Manchester was quite good, but on this day, even more powerful performances were shown. The night was recorded by the taper who calls himself “CL”, which is familiar from the 2018 “NO FILTER” UK performance so far. As it was successful in recording a fairly high quality in Manchester, this time it boasts an even higher quality recording state. It is probably the result of taking a lot of experience in recording the UK schedule. Although it does not match the exceptional quality of last year’s “NO FILTER” items, the recording state with a very on sound image and excellent clarity is undoubtedly excellent. Since the situation is exciting at the vast outdoor venue on this day, there are some parts where the sound image becomes unstable during the performance, but the original recording state is very good so it does not reach the stress of listening. Therefore, for this release, we have applied equalization to adjust the instability of the bass, which is common in outdoor live audience recordings. As a result, the recording state, which was originally rich in clarity, has become even clearer, and the contours of the performance have also become clearer, making it easier to hear. As for the area around the taper on this day, it was not very noisy overall, and the reaction of a few fans nearby was sometimes irritating, which was a negative point. For example, the person humming along to the intro of “Under My Thumb”, the conversation before the encore, the performance of “Gimme Shelter”, and the excitement at the moment when some of the major songs started were sometimes irritating. It was a blessing in disguise that there were no loud voices of women like in Southampton on this day. As mentioned earlier, the performance on this day was quite good, but in the intro of the opening “Start Me Up”, Keith made a mistake by pressing the neck of the guitar so boldly that it was a pleasant surprise, which made me laugh. Well, this is a daily occurrence (laughs), but in the interlude of “Tumbling Dice”, Ronnie also misses the notes in a flashy manner. Speaking of the interlude of this song, he missed a lot in Coventry, but this time it even exceeded that. However, if you watch the YouTube of the day, Ronnie continues to play with a clean expression, which is a typical example of his unique unashamed mistakes. Even if you ignore these funny scenes of the guitarists, the performance on this day was quite good. After all, the songs that have been played so far are getting better and better. “Let’s Spend The Night Together”, which was very good in Manchester, is even better, and it’s nice to hear the energetic performance of an older band. And the one chosen by the vote on this day was “She’s A Rainbow”. This is not only a pop tune of the Stones in the mid-60s, but also a repertoire that the current Stones can play well. In fact, the performance here is refreshing and light. That’s why I would like to see more performances, but since it was only featured twice on last year’s tour, I thought it would be featured once more this time, and sure enough, it was played again in Berlin. Keith’s “Happy” was played in an unusually stable tone, but for a moment, it wasn’t so easy to sell. It’s a shame that Keith made a mistake in the timing of returning to the song from the interlude, ruining everything (lol), but leaving that song aside, two great performances were produced that show how well the day was going. The first was “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”. Lately, they’ve been getting into the habit of reprises, and each performance has been gaining momentum, but on this day, once the performance was over, Mick kept on inciting, and just when you thought what would come from there, it was nice to see it snowball into a reprise. And as for “Midnight Rambler,” it was promoted to the best performance of not only this day, but the 2018 tour. As already seen in Coventry and Manchester, Charlie’s enthusiasm has been evident in this song recently. It reached its climax on this day, with a series of drum rolls that incited the other three. Mick responded by inciting Charlie, who then incited him again, and the 76-year-old drummer really inspires him. In the second half, Ronnie explodes as usual, but Keith’s sure-footed cutting, which continues to back him up, is reminiscent of a live performance from the past. The clarity of the sound source, which conveys such an incandescent performance in detail, is also wonderful. This is a strong candidate for the best show of this tour!
