Description
The Stones’ label is famous for releasing best albums when they move to CBS, and we have introduced several of them using the original analog records. This time, we will introduce “Rewind (1971-1984)”, which was released by Atlantic in North America and EMI in other countries when the band moved to CBS. You may think, “What, it’s just a best of?”, but that’s not the case. This “Rewind 1971-1984” is quite a tricky best of. The LP and cassette distributed by Atlantic, the LP distributed by EMI in other countries (also released on CD in Japan), and the cassette all have different songs and song orders. Many people may think, “Well, it’s an old best of, so isn’t it unnecessary now?” However, there is a little fun to be had there. The cassette distributed by EMI, which has the most songs, contains an edited version of “Emotional Rescue” edited to about 3 minutes and 40 seconds. This time, we have reproduced it using the cassette tape distributed by EMI. Since it is not a digitally remastered sound source like today’s, you can enjoy the analog-taste sound quality that only cassette tapes can offer. The re-release from CBS seems to have adopted the track order of the US Atlantic cassette. This cassette is now almost impossible to obtain, so it is considered a valuable item. It seems that music cassette tapes are currently a bit of a boom in the collector’s world… Next, we will introduce the US promotional single “Emotional Rescue”, which was released on June 14, 1980, prior to the album of the same name, and reached 9th place in the UK charts and 3rd place in the US charts. It was a smash hit, ranking 9th in the UK charts and 3rd in the US charts. The album is also the biggest hit album since “Goats Head Soup”, which reached 1st place in both the UK and the US. It seems that all members of the Stones participated in the recording of this song. However, it seems that Ronnie is playing bass and Bill is playing synthesizer. As you know, the song itself is a disco-style song that continues the line of the big hit “Miss You” from the previous album. Now, this US promo disc has a long (album) version on one side and a short version edited to be more than one minute shorter for broadcast on the other side. The vinyl used this time is of course in excellent condition, so you can enjoy the high quality sound that only a US promo disc can provide. This means that three versions of “Emotional Rescue” will be recorded in a row, but each one is a different version. In other words, it is a reproduction of three different versions of “Emotional Rescue” released by the Stones label.
