Description
“HOUSTON 2005” and “ATLANTIC CITY 2006”, released two weeks ago, have been highly praised by enthusiasts for releasing unknown performances and famous sound sources from the Stones’ “A BIGGER BANG” tour. While many of the latest tours of artists are released in real time as the tour progresses, even if good sound sources appear after a certain amount of time has passed, they tend to be overlooked. These two titles were the ones that released the famous sound sources that had been buried due to that. This is not limited to the Stones, but there are always buried sound sources in live performances of any era. And this time, although it is only one title, we will release a sound source from the “A BIGGER BANG” tour again. The one that was chosen for this week’s release was the same 2005 US as “HOUSTON 2005”. While that was a December show, this time, the performance at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia on the 12th from the October show was released. The number of items originally released for the October “A BIGGER BANG” tour was extremely small, and the performance on the 10th, which was a hot topic at the time due to the “It’s Only Satisfaction” incident in the same Philadelphia, is more famous for both sound and video. However, this time, the performance on the 12th, which was the second show at the Wachovia Center, is recorded. The sound source of this day has a history of being released in a subtle form in the past, and appeared as a bonus track on the 10th performance title “JAMIN’SIDE BY SIDE” released by Godfather. Therefore, this is the first time that a complete recording of the performance on the 12th has been made, but the sound source is also a completely different audience recording. The sound source used for the previous bonus track was a sound source of severe quality by the standards of 2005, such as the edge of the sound being pulled back when the sound output became louder, but this time it is based on another sound source that has recently appeared on the Internet. The “A BIGGER BANG” tour sound source released two weeks ago was recorded in an atmosphere of a battle with the power of the on sound image, but this time on the second day of Philadelphia, the audience recording has a sense of realism, stunning clarity, and freshness. Although the early part of the show is a little unsatisfying due to the sound output of the venue, it evolves into a good balance from around “Rough Justice”. In addition, the excitement of the American Stones show is transmitted, but the big point is that the balance is not so stressful that it feels like the past sound source. On the 10th, there was a big bokeh incident called “It’s Only Satisfaction”, so as expected, this day is a stable performance that seems to be the second day of the same venue. Even more interesting is the set list for the first half of the show. After the nostalgic “Back Of My Hand” where Mick played slide guitar, it was “Midnight Rambler”. It is quite rare for this song to be played in the first half of a recent live performance (although it was played at the opening in Sydney in 2003), but it was played here several times only in the fall of 2005. Also, with the return of Mick Taylor on the recent “On Fire” tour, “Midnight Rambler” had a European atmosphere of 1973, but when you listen to the performance here again, you can feel the atmosphere of the 1969 tour, which is fresh. However, the band is a bit lost in the second half, and Mick is amazing, who continues to sing without being distracted by it. As expected, he was not shaken by the “It’s Only Satisfaction” incident (?). There was another song that was rarely played in the first half of the live performance on this day. That was “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”. It seems that it has become a standard to play this song in the second half of the live performance since the Babylon tour, but it was really refreshing to see it being played before the member introduction (i.e. before Keith Corner) on this day. In the “STEEL WHEELS” tour, which will be released at the same time, it was performed in the middle of the show like in the 70s, but it is rarer to play it in the first half than in “Midnight Rambler”. After this, in “Sympathy For The Devil”, which was near the end of the live, there was an in-ear monitor problem that occurred frequently in 2005. Mick’s singing was questionable until halfway through, which made me nervous. However, after he recovered, Mick’s passionate singing was amazing. It was a day where you can enjoy such a sense of ups and downs. As mentioned earlier, the clarity is amazing, so it is interesting to hear the crisp sound of the acoustic guitar played by the nostalgic support member Blondie Chaplin at the end of the live “Satisfaction”. And the ending, which ends with “Brown Sugar”, is also different, as if the pattern of the Babylon tour has been revived. A rare night in 2005 where you can enjoy a unique set list until the end.
