Description
The Rolling Stones’ latest tour begins with an audience album from the Philadelphia performance on July 23rd. Although the sound source that has appeared on the internet is not as direct as the previously released Chicago 2nd Day and Foxboro, it is still a high-quality sound source that is worth listening to. However, since the overall texture was plain and dark, we decided to equalize it for this release. As a result, the clarity and freshness have improved dramatically, making it easier to listen to and more enjoyable. It is true that the condition of the original sound source was not bad, but I couldn’t help but feel that the plainness I mentioned earlier did not fully convey the momentum and power of the performance on this day. It is said that the equalization applied there was completely successful, and the result is a sharp finish. Even if it doesn’t have the same direct feeling as the second day in Chicago, I think it’s still enjoyable enough. What’s more, thanks to this finish, Keith’s guitar is outstandingly powerful throughout the entire story! This day’s show was full of momentum to begin with, and “You Got Me Rocking” accelerated it. It is also a song that always plays the role of a starter for the band, but the effect on this day is tremendous, and Keith is at his best in “Bitch”, which was performed with that momentum. Moreover, due to the results of the equalization that has been applied this time, his play becomes even more vivid. After all, the Stones when Keith got on board were special. That’s why the B stage was attacked with a calm number called “Angie”, which gives it a sharp and nice feel. Still, Keith’s momentum shows no signs of slowing down, and even on “Sympathy for the Devil,” he performed a sharp solo that was a little different from his usual. The more you listen to it again, the more you can tell that it’s in great shape (I think its position in this setlist is also a contributing factor). And “Midnight Rambler” was the peak of Keith, who was always flying around. On this tour, I still have fresh memories of the hilarious happenings like the one in Foxboro, but it was probably because of something like that that Keith was inspired. The performance here is especially in the first half where Keith is playing a lot, and he and Charlie are stirring up each other and elevating it to a spectacular performance. The moments when his drumming reaches its peak are truly amazing. If that happens, Mick will also shout, and here is the best performance created at the end of the ideal chemistry of the Stones. Unfortunately, there were some places where the sound image became a little unstable after “Paint It Black”. Adjust as much as possible with equalization regarding that problem. This makes it much more audible than the original sound source. Above all, even the same song that has been played every night is so powerful that you can feel Keith’s spirit from the intro, and you will be overwhelmed by the powerful play again. Also, the surrounding noise at the moment “Start Me Up” started will be a negative point, and again, it may not be as powerful as the sound pressure on the second day in Chicago. To make up for it, the performance of the band below Keith is at full throttle. As I was writing this article, I was reminded that if Keith wanted to do that, the band’s playing skills could improve tremendously. Even if the sound quality does not reach the level of Chicago’s second day or Foxboro, it will definitely be counted among the best three on this tour in terms of performance content.
