Description

The good thing about the 1998 Japan tour was that the hype that had existed during the previous two visits to Japan subsided (although this also had the drawback of not being able to broadcast on television), and as a result, people who wanted to go were able to go to the concert. Thanks to this, not only the second day at the Tokyo Dome, which will be released at the same time, but throughout the entire tour, the excitement was far greater than the previous Japan performances, and the first Osaka performance was also realized. Of the two Osaka performances, the masterpiece “OSAKA 1998 2ND NIGHT” was released in 2014 using a uniquely obtained audience recording. This day also sold out in the blink of an eye, and a re-release was eagerly awaited. The 1998 Osaka performance items, including that one, had completely disappeared from the market, and it was one of the items that had been strongly called for to be re-released. In addition, this day was also the final day of the 1998 Japan tour. In that respect, the audience recording on this day was also an important record. After eight years since its release, this masterpiece is finally being re-released by enthusiasts! Graf Zeppelin was in charge of this brush-up, as was the case with the simultaneous release of “TOKYO 1998 2ND NIGHT”. The second day of the 1998 Osaka tour was the last day of the tour, so it was difficult to secure a good position for the taper, and all the items released in real time were audience recordings with a sound image that gave a sense of distance. In that respect, the main sound source also has a sense of distance, although not as much as those items. Because of this, it seemed to be a dilemma for the main sound source to appear to be lacking in the low range. It is also said that this is a common phenomenon for DAT audiences in the late 1990s. Graf Zeppelin used the latest technology to adjust this point, and as a result, it has evolved into a sound quality with a good backbone. When comparing the 2014 release version with this version, the difference is clear, and the already released version now appears to have a sparse sound quality. This is because the original sound source had a distant sound image and the bass was not picked up, but if it had been brushed up with the technology of 1998, the sound quality would have changed drastically to a hazy sound quality rather than an enhanced low range. That is the big difference from brushing up using current technology, and it is an upper feeling that could only be achieved in 2022. Also, when this sound source was released in 2014, it was once again felt that Mick’s voice was fading because it was the last day of the tour. Compared to the sharp “TOKYO 1998 2ND NIGHT”, this day felt like the Stones or Mick were operating normally for a while from the start of the live. The most noticeable thing in the first half of the live is “Flip The Switch”, which requires an upper passionate singing. Compared to the second day at Tokyo Dome, Mick’s singing is clearly not aggressive, and it seems that he may even get the composition wrong. Here, he must have realized his own condition, and for a while, he seems to be conserving his throat by singing at a pace that distributes every other song. Perhaps it worked, but before “Out Of Control” he said “wait a minute” and made the Osaka audience laugh. And it’s no exaggeration to say that the best scene of the day was “Under My Thumb”, which was performed as a voting number. The performance was really amazing. Keith was particularly fired up, and the performance was much hotter than the recent live performance of the song. In addition, the fact that he had been saving his throat until then paid off, and Mick also sang at full throttle here. Above all, it has become a precious scene of “Under My~”, which the Stones performed in Japan when Charlie was alive. The following “Miss You” was also a wonderful performance, and here too Mick, who was in top form, incited the Osaka Dome. Compared to the condition at the beginning of the live, the engine was fully throttled. These two songs may have been the peak of the day. After that, thanks to the recording condition mentioned above, Keith’s guitar was overwhelming in his two songs, and on the B stage, he performed the slow blues “I Just Wanna Make Love To You,” which was the first performance in Japan and which Mick could sing without difficulty on this day. The performance was full of sophistication, which was a stark change from the hasty arrangement of the first album. After all, the Stones are the best when it comes to songs like this. However, Mick, who has been working hard like this, has only reached this point. From “Tumbling Dice,” he often sang the normal song melody lower, and by the finale “Brown Sugar,” his voice seemed to be struggling. In the end, the excitement of the ending “Yeah Yeah Whoo” was also subdued. However, since the items from this day have been difficult to obtain for a long time, it may not be easy for maniacs who do not know the scene to hear it now. On the final day of the 1998 Japan tour, which became a document of Mick’s struggle, the masterpiece of the original sound source was re-released in an upper version brushed up by Graf Zeppelin! (Remastering Memo) REMASTERED BY GRAF ZEPPELIN★The midrange was peculiar and the low range was lacking, so I adjusted the band mainly in that area. I think the sound has become a little tighter and more crisp. The distortion caused by the microphone near the head of the satisfaction at the beginning of the live performance has been processed to sound more realistic. Only the beginning, which is the most difficult to hear due to distortion, has been processed.
