Description
Last year’s New Jersey performance, but of course the second day was released at the same time. Even so, these two days in NJ are really honor student audience recordings. When I wondered why it was in such exceptionally easy-to-listen condition, I discovered that it was previously recorded by daspyknows, the taper who produced masterpieces such as Desert Trip Second Day in Oakland in 2013 and Prague in 2018. . No wonder the sound is so good. However, these two NJ sound sources this time were not uploaded immediately after the performance, and they were published in a different place from the major sound source upload site that he usually uses, which indicates that they are recent sound sources. This may be the reason why it has been overlooked. Naturally, this is also equalized in the same way as on the first day of NJ, making the contours of the performance stand out and making it even easier to hear the high-quality sound source. The second day in NJ where you can enjoy the same superb sound quality is also special. The most enjoyable thing was that it was different from the first day in every sense, but whereas the opening on the first day was a slow starter, this one was already at full throttle. As I listened to the powerful and wild performances of “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” and “You Got Me Rocking,” I realized that this is how the Stones should be! I can’t help but think. I think it was the best choice that “Harlem Shuffle” was picked up for the first time in a while with such momentum. It is a song that was played every night from 1989 to 1990, but since it is a recent song in the long history of the Stones, the performance is wonderful and does not feel blank. The only thing that seems to be suffering is Mick’s singing when the key changes, but even that is not enough to make you feel scared. If you look at the YouTube video from the same day, you can see that Mick was looking at Chuck Reverle in this scene, and he signaled, “(The keys) are going up.” As a result, it became a rare repertoire on last year’s tour, along with “Mercy Mercy,” and I can’t help but hope that they will perform it on stage again this year. In this way, it was the second day that the performance remained strong following the first day, but on this day, the other highlight of the day, “Monkey Man”, was not available. In the intro, Keith plays the song in a jumbled manner, and the entire performance lacks cohesion, and the ending ends in disjointed pieces. “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” is a song that can help rebuild a shaky band at times like these. In fact, the performance was amazing, as if trying to recover from the physical exertion of the previous song, and the way it ended without a reprise was hilarious. With this, the band regained its footing and played “Dead Flowers”, which had been unstable on the first day in NJ, in a cautious atmosphere. I can only think that this is a matter of caution after reflecting on the first day. “Let It Bleed”, which was played before that, was a good performance full of vitality, so the cautiousness here is even more heartwarming. From “Sympathy For The Devil”, the engine is fully opened again, and even the promised number “Honky Tonk Women” is a lively performance. After all, the Stones have a “big city switch” and even if their performance breaks down a little, they never lose their tune. Even the scene where Keith sloppily finishes “Before They Make Me Run” sounds more like a funny ending than a heartwarming one. And “Midnight Rambler” is the best performance that far surpasses the first day in NJ. When the band’s voltage is rising as a unit in this song, Charlie’s drums usually stir it up in the first half, and this day is also a typical example. Last year’s NJ performance was uneven in the good sense on both days, but it comes across realistically because it is daspyknows’ high-quality audience recording. There are not many audience albums where you can enjoy the difference between two days like this, and it is one of the best sound quality of the tour! ! (Remastered memo) Although the sound quality is originally high, the hall sound in the midrange has been softened and made clearer. There are some songs where the bass is too loud, but I’ve softened the echoes so that you can hear the lines clearly.
