Description

Nowadays, a tremendous item called Leeds on the last day has been officially released, but it seems that the Rolling Stones 1982 European tour has not been able to produce items that say “This is it!” since the LP era. For example, Gothenburg, which is familiar to enthusiasts with LPs such as “NEVER STOP”, which was outstanding in terms of sound quality, is mediocre in terms of performance, and Paris, which was discovered in the CD era, has excellent sound quality, but on the other hand, the performance I had a similar impression regarding the content. On the contrary, although it is not as good as the sound quality, Wembley Stadium conveyed the full power of the Stones’ engine as you could hear it at first glance. 10 years ago, the LP reprint CD “MAKE THE WORLD GO ‘ROUND” conveyed their passionate performance. In the first place, there is a feeling that the tour itself has reached the next level from Wembley Stadium, and after Wembley, Frankfurt was held from the end of June with a performance in Bristol. The show was held at the same location for three consecutive nights, and the performance there was truly amazing. The 1982 tour had a sharper performance with an increased sense of speed than the previous year, but the momentum riding on that wave at Wembley was reflected beautifully. A title that combines all of the Frankfurt performances will be released. However, I felt that Franfkurt was not blessed with items. On the first day, an LP called “ALL THE GIRLS IN FRANKFURT” was released, and it was the most well-known sound source among enthusiasts during the three days. A CD was also released that was a (and crude) copy of the later LP, but although it was an easy-to-listen audience recording, it had the major drawback that the voices of the surrounding audience were extremely harsh. It was especially stressful to hear people yelling out songs they weren’t supposed to play, like “Sweet Virginia” or even “Cocksucker Blues.” In that respect, the LP “YEAH BABY YEAH” used an audience recording recorded in a much more stable environment, but the label that released it had a unique cover that did not use the artist’s photo on the front cover, and the LP Unfortunately, the incomplete recording of only one disc was a disaster, and it ended up being an unfortunate disc that was hardly appreciated at the time. Therefore, this time we used the same audience recording master as the “YEAH BABY YEAH” LP. This sound source had already been published on the internet by the famous KRW_CO, but it seems that it had been copied several times while being low-generated, and the big problem was that the sound deteriorated in “Honky Tonk Women” at that time. It contained. In that respect, this is based on a real master provided by an overseas collector, so you can enjoy it in an extremely stable condition without such problems. Speaking of stability, the CD version of the LP version of “ALL THE GIRLS IN FRANKFURT” had a low pitch that made it difficult to ignore it, and there was a common mistake that the intro of “Brown Sugar” was missing when recording from the LP. Of course, this time it is recorded in perfect condition. On the second day, there was an audience recording in which only one song, “Just My Imagination” was used on the “YEAH BABY YEAH” LP, and since the beginning of the 21st century, the VGP label has released it again under the name “YEAH BABY YEAH”. We are releasing the full-length version for the first time. At the time, I thought this was a fairly listenable sound, but the upper feeling of the master provided by an overseas collector was spectacular. The sound quality has improved by three ranks, making it difficult to even say that you can tell the difference at first listen. Compared to this version, I am reminded that the VGP version was in a considerably lower generation state. Therefore, the first day will be the LP version “YEAH BABY YEAH” and this day will be the upper version from the CD of the same name. This drastic change is probably the most shocking of the three sound sources. And the third day is the audience recording that will appear for the first time this time, but this is also a sound quality that is on par with the other two days, and it is unbelievable that it has never been released until now. What these all have in common is that they do not have a sound image that can be described as “just like a soundboard,” but rather have a good balance between distance and realism. If I were to rank them, the first one would be the first one, and the last two would be tied. In that respect, it may not be for everyone, but even if you don’t go to the level of a maniac, if you have been listening to audience recordings to some extent, you will be able to enjoy this a lot. The wonderful freshness of the versions provided this time for all three sound sources is also a big attraction. In addition to such unique sound quality and ease of listening, what is even more surprising is the Stones’ incredible performance throughout the three days. If it was three nights in a row, it wouldn’t be surprising if there was some sluggishness throughout the day, but the Stones’ engine was at full throttle throughout the three days, and the performance that penetrated all at once was refreshing. Mick has a frighteningly high voltage throughout all the days, but on the first day it is in a hyper tone, especially “Let Me Go” etc. Compared to last year’s US tour around November, this one was actually more intense. The only thing is that Keith played the riff of “Under My Thumb” so much wrong in the opening of the second day that it made me laugh, but how could he play the wrong song every night at the opening? I can’t help but ask. Still, he quickly got back on his feet, and it was amazing to see him belt out an unusually powerful lead on “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.” It is the second day’s sound source that has the great charm of being able to capture Keith’s sound a little louder, but the guitar play on the same song is the best. After that, “Hang fire” didn’t start easily, and there was an awkward pause. On the third day, Mick was in great shape as usual. The way things went wild after “Shattered” was like the 1982 tour, and the intense singing of “Just My Imagination” was one of the top songs from 1981 to 1982. Mick is at his peak. What’s more, on the first and second days, “Chantilly Lace,” a repertoire representative of 1982, is played. Although it is a song by the Big Bopper, a rocker who died a tragic death along with Buddy Holly, it is clear that it did not survive as part of the live repertoire until Leeds due to its lack of general recognition. Still, Mick’s unrestrained singing is wonderful, and the passionate performance in the part unique to 1982, which became three consecutive oldies covers with the introduction of this, is exceptional. The fact that “Chantilly Lace” was not performed is Leeds’ biggest drawback, and that is why the value of the Frankfurt sound source increases. After all, Europe in 1982 was made possible by this song. Not only is it an attractive audience album with the unique listening experience mentioned above, but it is also satisfying to listen to the fullness of the Stones’ performance that explodes throughout the three days. Thanks to the clear sense of speed, you’ll be able to finish listening to the 6-disc set in no time. In the first place, the 1982 tour is the first release of an item in a long time, but this is the best sound source that will definitely satisfy enthusiasts. Please enjoy three days of sharpness to your heart’s content with master quality with outstanding freshness and clarity. All three performances use excellent masters provided by overseas enthusiasts.
