Description

The live performance after Las Vegas will be released at the same time as the live performance in Atlanta on November 11th. After all, Vegas was a quality that was blown away by the incredible sound pressure, especially the closeness of Mick’s singing voice, but this is a more realistic audience recording with a balance that is closer to the sound image. Although it does not reach the extraordinary closeness of Vegas, you can imagine that the overall balance makes “LOS ANGELES 2021 1ST NIGHT” even more stable. Not only is the sound image close, but the balance of the entire performance is very good. And yet the rich and detailed realism that spreads to the left and right is exquisite. Because of this recording condition, it occasionally picks up conversations around it, but it is only between songs that are of concern. The sound pressure of the performance sweeps them away. The only thing that can be heard during the performance is “Living in a Ghost Town,” but this is America, which is cold to new songs, so let’s give up (laughs). In that respect, it was great that this song also showed great excitement at “TAMPA 2021”. It may not be because of that, but as the performance approached the second half, the timing when Mick asked the audience for a call and response was off, and they continued to exchange with each other. Still, Mick’s tension was very high, and as soon as the performance ended, he celebrated the local Atlanta Braves’ first World Series victory in 26 years and excited the venue. Of course, he, as well as the other members of the Stones, were in top form. The live performance on this day started again with a pattern of Brian’s period numbers in succession, but especially “19th Nervous Breakdown” gained momentum thanks to Steve. That “teketeke” ending was also perfect. Just this one song alone promised the greatness of the performance on this day, but on top of that, two songs from the repertoire that will be appearing for the first time since the start of this tour were introduced in succession. First of all, “Shattered”. This song also required speed and momentum when playing, but because of that, it was a repertoire that has been played less and less on stage in recent years. Steve’s drumming is a perfect match for this song, and the speed that was present in the live performances in 1978 and 1981 was revived for the first time in a long time. It is a selection that makes you think, “I had this idea!”, and at the same time, it makes you want to continue playing it. Not only Brian’s numbers, but also these songs were brought back to life by Steve’s drums. The other song is “She’s A Rainbow,” which is a hit with maniacs. Although it is not played frequently, this masterpiece that is played from time to time was also performed on this tour. Not only is it a song that has become well-known over the past 20 years, but it is also a wonderful number that highlights Chuck Leavell’s keyboard. There is no doubt that this is a repertoire that should be featured more, but it is probably the only performance on this tour, and it is a live version that does not disappoint. And in Tampa and Vegas, “Midnight Rambler” was becoming a Mick-led development, but Steve finally woke up, and in the first half he kept the rhythm thrillingly and reached the point where he could incite the band. If you watch the video of that day, you can see that he continued to support the performance even while Mick and Keith were heading out to the tongue pit, and it was amazing that he suddenly stopped the performance with Ronnie and Daryl at the right timing. From there, it was the usual development, but I think the thrill leading up to this point can be said to be proof of Steve’s awakening. After Charlie’s death, the members had no choice but to boost their morale by touring despite his absence, and as a result, Steve’s drumming, which breathes new air into them, was clearly a great match from the beginning of the tour, but it feels like their combination has reached the next level. Even the final part of the live performance, “Jumping Jack Flash”, was played lively, and Mick sang it with passion. This sound source allows you to enjoy them carefully with its stunning quality.
