Description

Was this the best Stones tour since 2017? The 2019 No Filter America Tour is already getting a lot of attention. The journey, which began in late June, was successfully completed in Miami on the 31st of last month. The two-month tour has already come to an end. Although there are rumors of a South American tour as the next step, I can’t help but feel a little sad that the Stones’ tour will end at the same time as the end of summer. However, the release of this tour through CD release is continuing! So this time we will be talking about the Santa Clara performance on August 18th. The story goes back and forth, but the performance on the 21st, which was the next show in Santa Clara, has been released as “PASADENA 2019”. The sound source this time is from a person on the same day. However, unlike Pasadena, where there were major issues such as sound cuts and monauralization, the recordings made here in Santa Clara were of truly wonderful quality. In other words, this was the last audience recording before his equipment broke. The Pasadena sound source would have been pretty good if it weren’t for the breakdown troubles, but the quality of Santa Clara by him easily surpasses that. First of all, the sound image is at a fairly high level, and the sounds of each instrument are also quite vivid. For example, apart from the fact that there are some parts in the middle of “Sympathy for the Devil” and “Paint It Black” where the sound gets a little muffled, it is quite easy to listen to on this tour. However, mainly in the first half of the live performance, there were some parts where Mick’s voice sounded like it was coming out of a loudspeaker, so equalization was done to adjust the sound quality there. As a result, the sound source that had a good background was finally promoted to an excellent level. It has suddenly been reborn as an upper version that is easier to listen to. And above all, the performance content on this day was amazing. The “July performance” called “PHILADELPHIA 2019” has already been produced, but this time, as the tour is in the final stage, the Stones will give a thrilling performance below Mick. First of all, from “Out Of Control”, which was played after Houston, it was a magnificent performance that surpassed that time. And this song was just played in Miami on the last day of the tour. The performance here in Santa Clara makes me keenly aware that this is one of the repertoires that the Stones can play easily today. This song alone should make you feel confident that today is going to be a good day. Following that, today’s voting song is “Rocks Off,” which will appear for the first time on this tour. Recently, it was performed in Barcelona in 2017, but the strength of the performance was incomparable to that time. I think this is also a reliable scene that eloquently tells us how well the Stones are doing on this tour. At the same time, there is one interesting fact. When this song was revived in the repertoire in 1994, the arrangement was a bit off-putting, with Mick singing most of the song with a low melody, but in recent years Mick has been singing it with a high melody from the beginning. That’s what it means. It is obvious if you compare it with “SYRACUSE 1994”, but it is also reliable that the current Mick sings the melody more firmly. “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” and “Sympathy For The Devil”, which were successful due to changing the performance position on this tour, are also wonderful. Furthermore, the two acoustic songs performed on the B stage were also good. On this tour, the selection and performance of the songs played on the B stage are very good. In addition, the fact that these acoustic songs are captured with considerably high sound quality is also a high point. Above all, “Midnight Rambler” could be said to be a symbol of the strength of each night on this tour. Charlie’s drumming climbed again this time, and Mick hummed a line of “You Gotta Move” on this day. The good thing about this tour is not only the appearance of rare numbers every day, but also the fact that these regular repertoires are showing good performance overall. When it comes to the second half of the tour, the Stones that burned in Santa Clara will prove that it is already in the rock-solid range. Nowadays, I still have fond memories of the second day in Chicago at the beginning of the tour and the “Midnight Rambler” incident in Foxboro (lol). As much as you can feel it, the engine is fully open as you would expect at the end of a tour, and the entire show is filled with reliable performances.
