Description

The LA Forum in July was the culmination of the Rolling Stones’ 1975 tour. It all began on July 9th. On this day, Mike Millard’s audience recording of excellent sound quality was famous, and the master recording is also awaited. There was also the LP “SMOKING STONES” which conveyed the greatness of the performance on this day in real time. Although it does not reach the level of the Millard recording, the quiet and clear sound quality is still easy to hear, and a CD version of the same LP was released 10 years ago. However, a new audience recording other than these sources was released early in the new year. This new source was released by “Waz From Oz Archives”, which surprised enthusiasts around the world with the upper version of “SURREY REHEARSALS 1968”, which was sold out during the popular sale. The tape box was also released at the same time, and as the disclaimer “Don’t ask me why the first half of the live is recorded… haha” says, unfortunately, it is an incomplete recording from the middle of “Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)”. That is a flaw. However, even if it does not reach the level of a mirrored recording, the sound image is closer than “SMOKING STONES” and it is recorded in stereo, so it is worth listening to. Until the end of the live, the surrounding sounds are not picked up much, and it is surprisingly easy to listen to for an audience recording that has been sleeping for nearly 50 years. Compared to “SMOKING STONES”, which had a very clear sound quality even when the sound image was far away, it has a roughness that is typical of 70’s analog, but still, the fact that it is stereo and the closeness of the sound image are high points. The recording condition is a success, and it is an unexpected charm that you can listen to it quickly on one disc. It is true that the recording from the middle of the live performance is undeniably for maniacs, but thanks to this stereo, the Stones’ rampage at the LA Forum 75 is transmitted so realistically. In the first place, the series of LA Forum performances seems to have been scheduled at the best timing of the 1975 tour, and the voltage of the performance on each day is extremely high. This was also experienced in the official releases on the 12th and 13th, but the tension was even higher because it was the first day of the series of performances. When it comes to the middle of the live performance, the engine is at full throttle. While this was a time when high-tension and wild performances were mass-produced, the performance on this day particularly stands out in “Midnight Rambler”. Here, Keith first incites the band, and in response, Charlie & Ollie Brown’s rhythm section goes wild, running through it like a roller coaster. The tactics between them and Keith, and the way they played the slow and fast performances were also very sharp, and all of the “Midnight Rambler” performances in the LA performances were really intense, but it is no exaggeration to say that the take on this day, which lasted for 15 minutes, was the best of them all. “Sympathy For The Devil”, which had become a “large venue-only encore repertoire” on this tour, made its comeback after the MSG consecutive performances, but this performance was also too intense. Compared to the mirrored recording and “SMOKING STONES”, this recording captures the excitement around the audience at the end of the live performance with a good balance, and therefore it even made you feel the excitement of the venue for the Stones in 1975, who descended on the LA Forum. However, when this song started, the excitement around them subsided. This tells us that the audience at the Forum was overwhelmed by the performance, which was too intense. In addition, Billy was hitting the piano keys furiously, which further increased the enthusiasm of the performance. This scene was captured with a good balance even in the mirrored sound source, but this sound source also has a considerable presence… which means that it must have been ringing out at a considerable volume at the venue on the day, and Mick screaming as if he was squeezing out his last strength in such a situation is also amazing. This new sound source conveys this spectacular performance and the atmosphere of the venue more realistically than other sound sources. As expected from “Waz From Oz Archives”, it is a shocking excavation that will make enthusiasts roar! The Forum, Inglewood, CA, USA 9th July 1975 TRULY AMAZING/PERFECT SOUND(NEW SOURCE) (79:22) 01.
