Description

Mick and Keith must have clearly recognized that Steve Jordan’s participation brought the 1960s numbers, that is, the Brian era songs, back to life. On the first day at SoFi Stadium in LA, the opening finally started with “Let’s Spend The Night Together”. As expected, it was an exciting start, and the live performance was amazing. The opening pattern of “19th Nervous Breakdown”, which was a Brian era opening that had never been done before, was really fresh. Above all, this is the first time in the history of Stones live performances that “Let’s Spend ~” has opened a live performance. This opening alone has such an impact that it can be said that it is a highlight, but the indispensable Charlie memorial comment on this tour was followed by a storm of “Rocks Off”, which appeared for the first time on this tour. Again, Steve’s drumming has brought back the momentum of the original aggressive performance, and it can be said that this is also a repertoire that has been revived. Taper could not contain his joy at the performance of this song, and he couldn’t help but sing it in a low voice (LOL). Still, the performance is overwhelmingly aggressive, so it hardly bothers me when I listen to it. The momentum continues with “Get Off of My Cloud,” which also makes its first appearance on this tour. This also goes great with Steve’s drumming, and here too, his drumming revives the Brian repertoire… as per the rule. The Brian festival on the set list for the first day in LA was concluded with “Ruby Tuesday,” which also made its first appearance on the tour. Since there had never been such a large number of Brian songs performed in the first half of the live performance, this is proof that Mick and Keith have begun to grasp Steve’s potential. Also, rather than the taper singing in “Rocks Off” that we heard earlier, the problem of the taper periodically turning away and the sound becoming distant, starting with this song, followed by “Tumbling Dice,” “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” and “Honky Tonk Women,” is more regrettable. However, it is ironic that when you return from there, you will once again realize the powerful sound image of this recording. The reason is that the sound source released this time is a stunning sound quality that will definitely convince you of the top quality of this tour. There were two types of sound sources for the audience recording on this day, the first one was by a taper called TJ, followed by this sound source. This was recorded from the PIT, so the on sound image, including Mick’s singing voice, is really wonderful. Therefore, the taper sometimes moved and unstable parts like the previous one occurred, but even if you ignore these problems, the overwhelmingly on and powerful recording state will be a level that even non-maniacs can enjoy. After all, the sound quality is high, so I’m happy to clearly convey how the performance of the new Stones with Steve is getting better and better. Keith’s “Connection”, which was a great success at its first performance in Nashville, was also performed wonderfully on this day. On this day, the song was “Ruby Tuesday” and the opening “Let’s Spend The Night Together”, and I would like to call it a “BETWEEN THE BUTTONS” night. If there is only one performance that is regrettable on this day, it is “Midnight Rambler”. Up until now, Steve had been able to inspire the audience in his own way, even though he couldn’t get the performance to the peak like Charlie did, but on this day, the performance somehow ended without catching the peak. However, since the numbers from the Brian period showed such brilliance, it was impossible for the newcomer Steve to do everything perfectly. Overall, Steve’s drums led the performance with a very high tension, and it was wonderful to see Mick’s excitement in response to it captured in a wonderful sound image. The occasional sound fluctuations were no problem. The powerful sound image and incandescent performance more than made up for it. This is the first album to be released among the audience albums capturing the new Stones’ live performance! SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, CA, USA 14th October 2021 TRULY PERFECT SOUND Disc 1 (69:37) 1.
