Description

As mentioned in the Norfolk performance “GOIN’ BACK TO THE ROOTS” to be released, the LA Forum in June was released in real time alongside it on the 1972 American tour. Speaking of which, “GET YOUR ROCKS OFF” was released, a nostalgic album that enthusiasts will immediately think of. It was an audience recording with a sense of distance, but unlike “GOIN’ BACK~”, it was attractive that it recorded the entire stage. Charlotte, who had the best sound quality among the audience recordings of the 1972 tour, also had three songs released as “REHEARSAL SESSIONS ’72 TOUR” from the same Contra Band Music as “GOIN’ BACK ~” at that time. It was much later that the long version of it saw the light of day as “BRING IT BACK ALIVE” on the TMOQ label. That is why “GET YOUR ROCKS OFF” was appreciated in 1972, but regarding this LA Forum sound source, there is another audience recording besides the same LP. This was published by JEMS on the internet in 2011, and based on this we have released “WESTERN AFFAIR VOL.2”. It seems that some thought that it was the same sound source because the recording condition was similar to “RECORDER 1”, “GET YOUR~”, but it is a different sound source, “RECORDER 2”. This is also a monaural audience with a sense of distance in the sound image, and although it can’t be said to be for everyone, I think it’s at a level that enthusiasts can enjoy. DAC had created a complete version by patching the missing parts of this sound source with the “GET YOUR~” sound source, but this time only the “recorder 2” itself is included. Therefore, the cuts that occur in “Sweet Virginia” and “Midnight Rambler” and even “Street Fighting Man”, whose recording ended midway, are recorded as is. Thanks to that, “Honky Tonk Women”, which was performed as an encore, was not included, and this was the original recording state. Surprisingly, even if you listen to the sound source as it is, where such cuts can be found here and there, it doesn’t feel that stressful. Above all, a week has passed since the start of the tour, and you can clearly see that they are starting to pick up speed. It’s true that it hasn’t reached the level of perfection heard in July’s “GOIN’ BACK ~” and “Firaspe,” but it still has plenty of momentum. Taylor’s guitar play still feels like it’s in full bloom, but on the other hand, I’m surprised that Keith is playing so well on “Bitch”. In addition to that, Mick is quite shouting because it is the first half of the tour, and a typical example is “Sweet Virginia”. Of course, it is a shame that “Honky Tonk Women”, which is the highlight of this day, was not recorded, but the difference is clear and interesting when compared with the July item that will be released in full throttle.
