Description
Following the album, Roger’s first solo tour in 1984, accompanied by Eric Clapton, was the 6th performance of the “Pros And Cons Of Hitch-Hiking World Tour”, at London Earl’s Court 2 in the UK. The third day following Days, the first day performance of Birmingham NEC is almost completely recorded with the highest level of high-quality audience recording. There are two types of complete recording discs for this performance, both of which are of good quality (one of them is the MV “Safebreaker”), but this disc is also recorded with excellent sound comparable to the previous releases. I’m surprised by Set The Controls, which suddenly starts with a cut-in, but the sound quality is top class at this stage. The entire album is recorded with a punchy, clear and stable sound that is sure of its generation and freshness. At the 2-minute mark, the drums come in strongly and Mel Collins’ saxophone solo dances, and the electric piano backing creates an effective sense of color. Fans will be thrilled by the rich sound image. Clapton’s long solo, which was firmly captured in the second half of the song and Money, jumps out of the speakers with an overwhelming sound. If sung in a weak tone is also captured in a very close sound image, which shows the excellence of this new recording. Even the slight hiss noise does not interfere with viewing at all. If The tasteful flowing acoustic solo in the middle is the best, and it is a take that allows you to realize once again the splendor of Clapton and Roger’s collaboration. Like the previous Paris performance, Welcome To The Machine is also recorded with a high-grade sound image that is deep, clear, and highly analyzed without any cracking, and will greatly satisfy fans. Andy Newmark’s tight and powerful drums are effective, and Mel Collins’ solo in the second half captivates the listener. Unfortunately, there is a tape change cut here, and Have A Cigar starts without the intro. However, the stability of the sound remains the same, and the tight, clear sound without any elements that are difficult to listen to continues to reproduce this wonderful live performance with the best sound image. The 3-minute drum solo in the same song has a jersey arrangement, the guitar cutting involved, Mel’s saxophone solo, and the high-quality performance with a perfect scale is very enjoyable. Although the audience’s excitement after the performance is quite large, it quickly quiets down as soon as the original arrangement of Wish You Were Here starts from the piano. The tight and straight melody that was only available at this time, featuring a large piano arpeggio, still sounds fresh even today. The guitar solo and the climax in the second half, as if the show had already reached its climax, are also worth listening to. After the performance, there is a tape change cut again, but no songs are missing. In the popular song In The Flesh, the sound image wavers slightly due to the hysterical excitement of the audience. Nobody’s Home includes a long guitar solo that is not in the original, making it one of the highlights of the song. The three consecutive “WALL” numbers end with Hey You, the saxophone solo in the middle, and Roger’s vocal part in the second half is recorded with great force. Gunners Dream, which was recorded on two discs in the original sound source, is correctly placed at the end of disc 1. The dramatic masterpieces that represent “Final Cut” are recorded with the highest sound quality comparable to line recording, confirming once again the excellent sound of the original sound source. The guitar solo in the second half of the song is dramatic! Disc 2 contains a complete reproduction of the second part of the concert “Pros And Cons Of Hitch-Hiking” album with the same thick and clear sound as the first part. There is a tape change cut after the 4:47 AM (The Remains Of Our Love) performance, and the guitar intro at 4:50 AM (Go Fishing) is slightly missing, but it is not seriously missing. At the peak point, the sound image is very clear and has a deep taste, although it feels a bit analog-like muddy. In the final Brain Damage, something funny happened at 2:37 in “Lunatic”, where Roger really laughed while singing. The first day of the 1984 Birmingham performance, which can be enjoyed with the first high-quality audience recording. Introducing a must-have for fans.
