The ultra-high performance capsule microphone, Schopes’ “MK4”. Its penetration into unofficial sound sources has become remarkable, but I think many people who listened to it were surprised by the extraordinary sound quality. The currently ongoing US + THEM tour by Roger Waters has also begun to make a furious recording using the MK4, and last week, “LOUISVILLE 2017 MATRIX” and “LOUISVILLE 2017” (Tapehead2) were released and are still a hot topic. Moreover, since the microphone is MK4, there is no way that the sound would be bad. This latest work was directly recorded and turned into a sound disc, and the sound quality is actually amazing. The perfect sound, with no room for equalization or even noise removal, is breathing in every corner of the disc! The first thing that everyone notices at the start of “Breathe” is the distinctiveness of its rich texture and the smoothness of the sound. The way the music of this day is slowly spun in a natural position where all the sounds reach the same time is more moving than exciting, and the sound suddenly explodes with expectations. In “One of These Days”, the twin basses foster a mellow sound with a dynamic feel, and the contrast of the guitar cutting into this with a sharp tone is irresistible. The right speaker delivers the right sound and the left speaker delivers the left sound directly, so the high-speed sound of each instrument is interestingly well understood. The chorus of “The Great Gig in the Sky” also has a superb sound that stands out for its good input sensitivity. You can hear the deep and faint pianissimo and strong fortissimo vocal expressions with amazing resolution, and you will be captivated by the extraordinary recording power. In “Welcome to the Machine,” a tough sound with a thick core that does not distort or waver in the slightest stands out, and you will be amazed at the detailed sound image that follows the movements of each instrument that forms the solid sound image. The ratio of noise generated by a signal passing through a device is called the signal-to-noise ratio (the higher the number, the less noise), and in “When We Were Young” and “The Last Refugee,” the signal-to-noise ratio blossoms high in silence. No matter how favorable the recording position or the excellent high-performance microphone, it is rare to record with such high transparency, and at the same time, you will be able to realize once again that this is not a product of chance by recording continuously. “Picture That” is also recorded with outstanding precision and freshness, with the goodness of the original song soaring powerfully, and the performance full of vitality. “Wish You Were Here” also has a full-bodied sound that makes you feel the vibration of the guitar strings, and there is surely no fan who doesn’t get excited by this. “The Happiest Days of Our Lives” has a sharp percussion sound and Roger’s singing voice, and Dave (Kilmister)’s guitar, which can be heard in “Another Brick…Part 2”, also comes out with a super sound that makes the tone stand out, so be sure to check it out. “Dogs” also has the same high-performance digital sound as always, but here, the synthesizer that comes out in the middle part in particular has a tremendous flying feeling, and you can enjoy the surprise of the clear sound signal jumping out with a direct feeling of 100% direct connection to the venue. “Pigs (Three Different Ones)” not only shows the dynamic mid-low range with a realistic clarity, but also has a powerful feeling that cuts into the high range directly in the recorded sound, so you can experience a vivid full-band sound. The sound in the middle part where the saxophone comes out also has a high recording performance that clearly brings out the sharp and pulsating sound unique to wind instruments. Also, the high range of “Us and Them” leaves an unforgettable impression on the ears, but interestingly, there is a scene in the middle part where the message is conveyed by singing partly strongly, like “Pigs (Three Different Ones)”, which is worth paying attention to. “Smell the Roses” is a tough sound that allows you to feel that each sound contains a lot of information, and you will be surprised by the overwhelming dynamism that ripples across the entire frequency range. This is also a sound image that allows you to feel the high performance of the microphone. “Comfortably Numb” is, above all, a long guitar solo at the end. Not only is it a more eloquent solo than usual, but it also has a shine-on sound that can be said to be a highlight in terms of sound quality, leaving you with a wonderful listening experience.
