While the 2022 Who’s “HITS BACK” tour was off during the summer, Roger, who was in high spirits, went on his own to perform the “WHO WAS I” UK tour, and the live performance in Glasgow, Scotland on July 6th was recorded in full for 1 hour and 54 minutes from the digital audience master released by Taper. First of all, half of the band, including Simon Townshend, are the same members as the Who’s tour, and the performance style is an unplugged band arrangement throughout. And since it’s Roger’s solo, instead of reducing the Who’s repertoire, many of Roger’s solo numbers are incorporated, and the acoustic “After The Fire”, which was also used in a car commercial in Japan in the 1980s, is particularly fresh. Other highlights include “I Keep It Myself” from the album with Wilko Johnson, “As Long As I Have You,” the title track of Roger’s 2022 solo album and a familiar sight at Zep live performances, and the final song, “Young Man Blues,” which hasn’t been performed by the Who on stage in recent years.
