Description

This is the most classic live recording of the Faces in 1970, when they started their activities as a band, held in Santa Monica on October 30th. TMOQ released it on a stamp cover LP called “ROD STEWART & FACES: PLYNTH”, which made their live performance known to the world, and it has become a classic and a best-seller that has been reissued many times. Another reason why this album was considered a classic was that the quality of the audience recording made by Dub Taylor of the same label, TMOQ, was very good. This was because it was recorded with a dub-killing setup of a woofer deck and a Sennheiser microphone, just like the famous Stones albums “LIVE’R THAN YOU’LL EVER BE” and ZEP “LIVE ON BLUEBERRY HILL”. Moreover, it was the perfect timing, as they had just produced the latter famous recording a month earlier. No wonder the sound quality is so high. The 1st Gen Reel of this great recording was suddenly discovered in recent years, and the masterpiece that released it is “SANTA MONICA 1970”. In the early days of CDs, an item called “PLYNHT” was released that was a LP drop and had the spelling wrong, but here, in 2015, the 1st Gen Reel was finally released on CD with a quality that is different from the original. It recorded sales worthy of the definitive version of TMOQ’s rare great recording and sold out. It seemed necessary to reissue it as a sound source that captured the early stage of the Faces with great sound quality, but when it comes to restoring vintage audiences, this man “GRAF ZEPPELIN” stepped up to the plate for this re-release. The 1st Gen Reel was released on 1 CD because the beginning of the live performance heard on the LP was not included, and the unrecorded parts were included as a separate CD-R that was a reprint of the TMOQ version. However, this time “GRAF ZEPPELIN” has been upgraded to a full-length version including the LP part and a 2 CD release. Above all, the LP of the early part of the live performance was perfectly transferred from the original TMOQ version. To tell the truth, “ROD STEWART & FACES: PLYNTH” has been pressed many times due to its popularity, and even the stamp cover and color vinyl version has differences in the material. In fact, the previous CD was also recorded from a later pressing. GRAF ZEPPELIN has achieved a super clean transfer from the stamp cover of the original “SF 506 A/B” material. In addition, there is no scratch noise, and the entire live performance is recorded in a state that is in no way inferior to the 1st Gen Reel. The sound is so good that, for example, the missing part of the latter half of “Gasoline Alley” on the 1st Gen Reel is filled in with LP, but it sounds so natural that it is surprising. Of course, GRAF ZEPPELIN has also performed a thorough restoration of the 1st Gen Reel itself. The unnaturalness of the left-leaning due to phase shift, which was particularly noticeable in the finale “Blues Deluxe”, has been thoroughly restored to a dignified mono. The potential of the 1st Gen Reel, a dub audience recording, was fully realized. This recording is truly a dub recording by Uhel & Sennheiser, and the sound atmosphere is actually very similar to “LIVE’R THAN YOU’LL EVER BE”. It also perfectly captures the rough but dynamic performance that is unique to the early Faces. The sound pressure of Ronnie’s guitar is so great that it almost hits the sound board (this was recorded in 1970, right?). Also, in the opening, Rod introduces himself as “Small Faces”, which is a scene unique to the early days of their activities. The masterpiece TMOQ recording, which represents the Faces in 1970, has been reborn by “GRAF ZEPPELIN”. It is no longer a “reissue” but a “different thing”! Remastering memo The best parts of the 1st Gen Reel of TMOQ, which has been on the market in recent years, and the original analog record from that time are taken and reproduced as the longest version ever! The reel part is the latest remaster from the same material as before. The analog record has been remastered after being digitized from the original. Based on the reel, the missing parts are supplemented with the analog record. Please refer to the track list below for the recording composition. If you already have the reel part, you will know that it is a very high-quality mono Aud. This time, the phase shift that occurred at the end has been resolved for the first time. The end of the Gasoline Alley performance and the inter-song cut before Around The Plynth, which were missing in the reel part, have been compensated for by the analog record to the extent possible! The parts recorded on the analog record are mainly Disc 1, but the sound quality of this part is also extremely good, and there is almost no difference in sound quality with the reel part, and it is an amazingly superb sound that you would not think is from an analog record when listening normally! There is no buzzing hum noise, and we guarantee that it is a world apart from what you have already heard. The correct track order is unknown, but there is some overlap between the track after Country Comforts on the analog record and the track before Around ThPlynthLive at Civic Center, Santa Monica, California, USA 30th October 1970 ULTIMATE SOUND UPGRADE Taken from the original LP “PLYNTH” (Trade Mark Of Quality SF 506 A/B) & TMOQ 1st Gen Reel Tapes on the reel, so the tracks are recorded in the following order.
