This is a complete recording of the Wolf Trap performance in Vienna, Virginia on July 22nd, from Plant’s 2013 US tour with Sensational Space Shifters, using a stereo soundboard source from a line source, a multi-ear monitor source that Plant used on stage for monitoring. Although it lacks a sense of realism because there is almost no sound from the audience, it is a valuable live recording. First of all, the members are members of Strange Sensation, as well as Patty Griffin of Band of Joy, who is also Plant’s new wife, and African-American musicians who participated in Justin Adams, who was a support act at the 2011 London performance. Therefore, you can feel Plant’s attitude of distancing himself from commercial activities and simply trying to play the music he wants to do. It consists of old blues with unique arrangements, Zep numbers, and Strange Sensation numbers, all of which are performed and arranged to be a great listen. The show opened with “Baby I’m Gonna Leave You” from Zep’s first album, followed by other songs like “Black Dog” and “California,” and in the second half they also covered “Whole Lotta Love” and “Rock ‘n’ Roll,” which unsurprisingly were the most exciting parts of the show.
