The July 1978 Maxis Kansas City performance, which had previously only been available for the second set, is now available as a complete version including a newly excavated recording of the first set! The late show at Maxis Kansas City in New York on July 1, 1978, when the second Voidoids added a new bassist to focus on vocals, was available on the same label’s previously released “AMUSE YOURSELF” as a mono audience recording with no distortion or noise and a very good balance, but the first show of that day has finally been unearthed and is now available as a complete version that includes all two stages of that day! The sound quality is a mono audience recording recorded with a very good balance, just like the late show, and the pitch deviation caused by the master has been carefully corrected as with the previously released version. The only recordings from this period were from the previous day on the now out of print live compilation “FUNHUNT,” which was released in Japan. The set includes songs from the first album, of course, but the opening number is a cool cover of the Rolling Stones’ “I’m Free,” which is unique to this period. Another song is a boldly arranged cover of the Stones’ “Ventilator Blues.” “Amuse Yourself” is an early version with different lyrics of the number later recorded as “Ignore That Door.” The set list also includes rare tracks such as the live staple “I Wanna Be Your Dog” cover of the Stooges, and the unreleased single “Kid With The Replacable Head.” Don’t miss the newly unearthed first show, where you can hear “Staring In Her Eyes” and “Down At The Rock And Roll Club,” which weren’t played at the later shows!
