Description

Along with MOTLEY CRUE, QUIET RIOT, and ROUGH CUTT, RATT is one of the leading figures in the L.A. metal movement. From their peak performance after the release of “INVASION OF YOUR PRIVACY,” a live source from their UK tour has been released! Using the original cassette master recorded by the famous taper Crazy S., this work approaches with the best audience sound, and is a must-listen for all L.A. metal fans! This band, started by vocalist Stephen Pearcy in the late ’70s, had many members coming and going, but by ’81, with guitarist Jake E. Lee, it had become highly popular in the Los Angeles music scene. When Jake left the band, other members also left one after another, and the band was in crisis, but Stephen began to rebuild the band by replacing the members. The band’s lineup was solidified with Robin Crosby and Warren DeMartini on twin guitars, Bobby Blotzer on drums, and former DOKKEN member Voan Kruche on bass, and the band was on a roll. With this lineup, they released the EP “RATT,” and their major debut album “OUT OF THE CELLAR” immediately became a hit, reaching number 7 in the US. Their music, which was established as a flashy and bright sound, was affectionately known to fans as “Rat’n’Roll.” The band carried this momentum and released their second album “INVASION OF YOUR PRIVACY” in July 1985. “Lay It Down,” for which a video clip was made, also became a hot topic, and they performed energetic live shows not only in the US but also in Europe, opening for Ozzy Osbourne and others. In August of the same year, they also appeared at the 6th “Monsters of Rock” festival. This work includes a 53-minute recording of the 1986 UK tour, which was held as a support for Ozzy Osbourne’s “The Ultimate Sin” tour, and the Nottingham Royal Concert Hall performance on February 27th, recorded by Crazy S. as a wonderful audience recording. The one and only super master sound source, which was highly praised by “Invasion U.K.” released by Lagnley label in 2001, is recorded from a cassette master provided by Crazy S. Not only has the sound quality been improved, but it is recorded for nearly 20 seconds longer than before. The wide sound and realism that envelops the listener at the moment the opening and “Dangerous But Worth The Risk” begin, and the outstanding clarity are simply amazing. The sound of each member’s play popping out from the left and right of the channel is of such quality that it is hard to believe that this is an audience recording. Robin and Warren’s twin guitars are vivid, and the bouncy rhythm of Bobby and Foran is particularly impressive. Stephen’s unique vocals are also lively. Has there ever been such a great sound source among the live sources of RATT that have been available in the past? Taper’s Crazy S. left many excellent recordings in 1986, but this recording is definitely one of the best! Of course, the pitch is normal. The sound has been remastered to make it even more solid and enjoyable to listen to. The set is centered on songs from “INVASION OF YOUR PRIVACY”, and in the consecutive numbers such as “Dangerous But Worth The Risk”, “Give It All”, “You Should Know By Now” and “Never Use Love”, you can enjoy the dynamic and gorgeous performance that is typical of “Rat’n’Roll”. The 1st masterpiece “Wanted Man”, “Walkin’ The Dog” and “You Think You’re Tough” from the debut EP are also woven into the mix, creating a bright and open mood. The fun and excitement of this L.A. metal will make the listeners feel excited. Warren, who later joined WHITESNAKE, has been playing talented guitar since this time, and his flashy playing in each song is a must-listen. He also shows off his skills in the free solo that follows “Never Use Love”. Robin is not to be outdone, and shows off a heavy guitar sound at the beginning of “You Think You’re Tough”. RATT tends to have a band image, but you can see that the foundation of their performance is also solid. The show finally reaches its climax with the hit song “Lay It Down”. “You’re In Love”, which develops into a medley from the same song, is also interesting in a different way from the album. The final song of the set, “Sweet Cheater,” and the encore song, “Round And Round,” were both powerful performances that knocked out the audience. The positive atmosphere that is characteristic of RATT made the final performance a pleasant one. The live performance, in which songs were played one after another with almost no break, was fulfilling beyond the 53-minute performance time, and although they were the opening act, they made a statement like the main act (Ozzy, who performed as the main act, did not restrict the younger members and allowed them to perform freely, so he may have been the “hidden hero” of this live performance). In 1986, the year when L.A. metal was at its most glamorous, this recording, which captures the main act’s live performance with the best sound, is truly a masterpiece! RATT’s best live source that all fans who love ’80s metal should listen to is now released!
