Description

A great masterpiece representing the Graham Bonnet era is to be reissued. This work contains the “Stockholm performance on January 18, 1980”. This is the superb audience album. The Graham era is famous for the official MONSTERS OF ROCK (hereinafter referred to as MOR) and the legendary Japanese performance. First, let’s imagine the position from the whole picture of “DOWN TO EARTH TOUR 1979-1980”. September-October 1979: North America #1 (18 performances) November-December 1979: North America #2 (24 performances) January-March 1980: Europe (35 performances) ←★Here★ – about 2 months later – May 1980: Japan (6 performances) – about 3 months later – August 1980: Northern Europe + MOR (4 performances) In this way, the tour is roughly divided into three parts: “North America + Europe”, “Japan”, and “Northern Europe + MOR”. The Stockholm performance of this work is the second day of the “European” leg, which is different from both MOR and Japan. This show has been known for its recording for a long time, and is a major staple that has produced many existing releases. Its high quality was so high that it was distributed as a sound board. One of the best recordings of such a classic was “DEFINITIVE GRAHAM”. There was a title of the same name, but it was re-mastered. It is the original master of a powerful recording that has a long history and is mistaken for a sound board, and enthusiasts around the world are shocked by the real and vivid on sound. Until then, the highest peak of the Graham era was said to be “May 15, 1980: Osaka performance”, but it was an exceptional sound that surpassed even that. Because of that shock, the Darker Than Blue edition “DEFINITIVE GRAHAM” was sold out and discontinued in an instant. This work is a reprint and re-release of such a Darker Than Blue edition. Let me be honest. In fact, we were planning to deliver an upgraded version by re-digitalization and mastering from the original master. However, when we started working, there was no gap no matter where we looked. There was no way to tamper with the sound, which was too perfect. The sound, which was slightly biased towards the mid-range on the original label, was neatly arranged, and the unnatural track division was natural. Of course, the natural “ringing” of the original master was kept fresh and natural. The noise of “The Land Of Hope And Glory” in the master was also beautifully alleviated to the point that it could not be done any more. It was the highest peak that could not be surpassed even by the latest technology in 2017. If you touch it even a little, it will only be dirty. There was no other way to re-release it as it was, as it was the ultimate sound full of such “beauty of the tip”. The show depicted with such a sound is also worthy of the name “Definitive”. From the opening of “Mars” and “Over The Rainbow” that are unique to the Graham era, to the dramatic explosion of “Eyes Of The World”, the overwhelming singing of “Love’s No Friend”, the interesting “Since You Been Gone” where someone other than Graham MCs enter, the call and response of “All Night Long” that leaves the audience behind, and the romantic singing of “Catch The Rainbow” with an urban sense… Although there are some scenes where the lyrics are missing as usual, Graham’s vocal momentum and control on this day are both in top form. If Graham, who has a wave, is in such top form, there is nothing to fear. Particularly overwhelming is the “Lost In Hollywood” medley that lasts about 30 minutes. Don Airey decides on a colorful keyboard solo, and Ritchie Blackmore’s solo is also sharp. Cozy’s solo time that starts dynamically is so powerful that words cannot be found, and the wonderfulness of “1812 Overture” reproduced with the best sound that could not be more … In fact, the Power Gate version had a disc change at this epic medley, but the Darker Than Blue version and this work are uncut. Moreover, the happiness of experiencing the highest peak sound is irreplaceable. In addition, in the encore, they also performed “Will You Still Love Me Tommorow?”, known as Richie’s request, and a guitar crash backed by “Kill The King” (note the “bang” sound at around 4:00!) appeared! As expected, there is no “Stargazer” only “Nordic + MOR”, but other than that, it is a live album that has everything you want from the Graham era. Even in the rainbow history, the Graham era was a one-of-a-kind super band. This is the apex board that depicts that best-of-breed live performance with superb sound.
